The first day of the 2021 Solheim Cup is halfway through and the US is in trouble. They trail after the morning round 3 1/2 to 1/2 to the European's. They trail in all afternoon rounds that are currently being played.

And they screwed the pooch in the morning session. For 95% of the time, they were running 2-2 and lost 1.5 pts (3pt differential on the last 2 holes. And in the US.

I know, I think it's because the number of young players that the US has this year. Three are in their first cup and 5 others are in their second. I believe that this is one of the least experienced team's that the US has fielded.

The state of Women's Golf in the US. Best players are the youngin's The Korda Sisters should be dominant but did not go their way.

The problem is putting, the EU is sinking theirs while the US can't sink a 4 footer.

After finishing day 1, 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 down, early day session starting out just as bad. Early in, down 3 1/2 to 1/2.

What a nice reversal. US Take the session 3-1 and even better, some massive putts at the end. Especially Lexi on 18 from 30 ft. :)

Strong Sunday morning by the USA in alternate shot...3-1. Euros lead is 6 and 1/2 to 5 and 1/2.
4 points in best ball this afternoon. Would not be surprised by another 3-1 by USA.
Just love the so-infrequent 'team' aspect of the Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup.

Ryder Cup coming up in late September at Whistling Straits..spectactular scenery in Wisconsin.

Lexi did make some key putts. She is a legit star and would be a superstar if she were not kinda noted for
missing short key putts in big time tourneys. Just 26...make putts in crunch time with the consistency of a solid LPGA putter and she would go to #1...imo.

I was cussing them out at the beginning, they couldn't sink a put that wasn't within 3 feet and the EU was sinking everything.

Euros lead 9-7 with 12 points available on Monday....12 singles matches.
Euros won last Cup so USA needs to get to 14 and 1/2 points to win it back.
I would bet that will happen but the Euros are beginning to shed their traditional
underdog role.

We have a bunch of Solheim Cup first-timers but in truth our 3 best players
Lexi Thompson/Nelly and Jess Korda have been a problem.

Lexi 1-2
Nelly 1-2
Jess 0-2.

'Tis also true that both the American team and the Euro team would be underdogs to an Asian team.
The Asian invasion has been ongoing for quite while and I'm not sure that trend will change....especially as China
starts to take golf seriously...with the Olympics adopting golf as a medal sport getting their attention.

There have been a ton of matches going to the 18th hole...entertaining sports TV.
Golf Channel 12-6 Monday.

This USA lineup isn't anywhere near the 2015 USA team that came back from 10-6. Thompson, Lewis, Pressel, Kerr, Lincicomb, Creamer, Wie all were Major Championship winners.

Again the U.S. chokes in the Solheim Cup. The first session they blew it on the last couple of holes and gave up 3 points. They also blew it in Sat afternoon session and should have at least tied it 2-2 if not 2 1/2 - 1 1/2. It was all because of putting they couldn't get putts to fall. On many of them they blew 5 foot or less putts all week. I don't blame the rookies they did better than some of the more experienced players. I hope they do better in 2023.

Two of the 5 players that DID NOT have a losing record were rookies, Kupcho 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 and Noh 2-1. The other three were Salas 2 1/2 - 1 1/2, N. Korda 2-2, and Khang 1 1/2 - 1 1/2. I think the Captain Pat Hurst made a mistake pairing the Korda sisters the first session, they didn't seem to be jelling. I was very disappointed with Kang 1-3, Thompson 1 1/2 - 2 1/2, and J. Korda 1-2, all three of them had 3 or more Solheim Cup appearances but played worse than the 3 rookies. The only reason why Salas had a winning record was because of the play of her rookie teammate Kupcho.

The putting of all the USA stars was bad all week. Lexi would hit on a 25 footer then miss 3 4or 5 foot putts.

Just curious. Were their any choices made in picking the team that were strange or controversial?

The captain for the Americans only get 3 picks, they were fairly straightforward. The first 7 picks come from the 2 year Solheim point standings awarded by finishing in the top 20 in a tournament. The next 2 picks come from the Rolex rankings. A 2 year weekly average. The highest 2 ranked not in the first 7.
