This is curious. Another 6'8" or 6'9" guy. Rated about #200, and not trending up. Who's he being recruited over?

Is this a diversion so Kentucky doesn't worry about us going after Cliff anymore?

He's supposedly spent a lot of time at Georgia Tech where the Master Pastner may have hit the skids. Here's his record with the last five years highlighted. Not exactly easy to explain to a kid when he asks how many times the school has won the ACC while Pastner's been there.

2010--24-10 Memphis
2011--25-10 Memphis
2012--26-9 Memphis
2013--31-5 Memphis
2014--24-10 Memphis
2015--18-14 Memphis
2016--19-15
Memphis
2017--21-16 Ga Tech
2018--13-19 Ga Tech
2019--14-18 Ga Tech

I’m thinking that we might not be as interested in him as he is in us.

But, the question is, where does he fit? Not a center, listed as a power forward, and yet we have Akok and Springs targeted for that spot.

Chief is from the school of thought to be a top team you should have 5 guys to rotate at the 4 and 5. In tournament play fouls take their toll inside. Both 1999 and 2004 teams had that. I believe 2011 did as well but I would need to check that.

assuming staff still wants a Center like cardwell we'd have 6.5 PF/Cs

PFs: akok, polley, meka
Cs: carlton, springs, cardwell, whaley

I view Polley as a 3. Akok thinks he’s two and done. Josh & Whaley are seniors next season.

Not just guys, grown men. I like Whaley and appreciate his work ethic but imagine him battling Soul or Edmund for a loose ball?

The 2011 team had a 4/5 rotation too - Alex, Chuck, Roscoe, Tyler and Wolfe to a minor degree. As time past, Giffey became more of a 2/3 who was a good rebounder Giffey was an excellent outside shooter. Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was an underrated passer, who was probably a 3 when he wasn’t pissing Jim off over something.

ESPN rated Giffey as a 40 as a recruit that year. For comparison, Wolfe was a 91. Yikes.

That was a nice pickup by GA Tech. Meka does the grind stuff that helps a team win.

Agreed. nobody does the five 6-9 to 6-11 guys better than Izzo. They just keep throwing big bodies at the opponent and wear them down. Lots of banging and 25 fouls to give is a recipe for success.

I wonder how much they made him aware of the news they knew was coming?
