In 2020 if UConn ends up as the Overall #1 Seed based on Mileage, they should be assigned to Fort Wayne Indiana.

861 Miles from Storrs to Greenville and 773 Miles to Fort Wayne.

However, I would bet UConn would get sent to Portland Oregon instead. Projecting Notre Dame will also be a #1 seed.

You can bet the 2020 selections were motivated by having a Regional outside of the Northeast, since there were so many that complained UConn had too much of an advantage.

That will be interesting. The past 2 years I've eschewed the AAC tourney in favor of the regionals. I get tickets for my dad and step mom, fly back to visit, and get to watch 3 really good basketball games. The past 2 years it was easy getting to Bridgeport. Next 2 years will be tougher getting to Albany. Not sure what we will do about Indiana.

This also happened in 2014, when UConn was placed in the Lincoln regional. I don't see this as a reaction to complaints, necessarily.

Broadly, it seems to me that there are 5 regions represented in the sites, - Northeast, Northwest, Midwest/B10 footprint, South, and Southwest/B12 footprint

In 2018 you have Albany (NE), Lexington (S), KC (B12 footprint), and Spokane (NW) - no B10 footprint regional, though KC is not too far away.

In 2019, you have Albany (NE), Chicago (MW/B10), Greensboro (S), and Portland (NW) - no SW/B12 regional

In 2020, you have Dallas (SW), Fort Wayne (MW/B10), Greenville (S), and Portland - no NE regional.

I don't know if it's happenstance or on purpose but there appears to be a sort of rotation going on.

Looks like SC won't have to travel very far in 2019-20

UCONN travels well. Doesn't matter where we go to me!

Glad Chicago is a site.

Two things

1) 2019 .... Columbia is hosting the men's 1st and 2nd round games..... so unless South Carolina uses the old Carolina Coliseum ..... they will be playing on the road in the opening rounds.

2) There is a big orange elephant in the room.... that might prevent South Carolina from playing in nearby regionals in 2019/20. A Ugly Orange Elephant at that

I wrote this earlier in another thread

I think Spokane gets it before Portland... Not sure if Portland would want to bid for a womans regional. It definitely wouldn't fill up the hotel rooms and restaurants that a mens regional or first and second round games would.

Back to back Regionals in Portland..... shows what I know :oops::oops::oops::oops:

.

That's not how it works.

If ND is a 1, they will get Ft Wayne . If SC is a 1 they will get Greenville.
They are not going to bump local teams just because it's a shorter flight for UConn. It's still a flight.

There are a lot of UConn fans out here on the west coast that would absolutely love for them to be sent to Portland for their regional games. I would definitely make THAT trip!!!

1. It doesn't matter as long as they make it to the regionals where they would play in front of 8,000 fans.
2. That big Orange elephant doesn't scare me one bit even next year with their "Loaded" roster. If they are the elephants we are the Mighty Mouses.

for west coast sites, Portland is ideal. While now it's not a drive from the Bay area (as is Stockton), Portland is a great city -- and no sales tax including meals! Plus it's just a few hours from Seattle so the fans from that area should attend easily -- plus if any of the OR schools are in that regional!

Better than Stockton or Fresno?

Sure, give, Portland a shot, whatever.
There are 12 schools within 500 miles -- 4 of them from a P5 conference.

IF lucky, 1 of those 12 will make the regional.

It will be lucky to sell 4000 tickets.

In 2019 and 2020, the Oregon freshman will be juniors and seniors. I think they will make the regionals both years in Portland.

I'm not convinced SC will be a #1 seed level team in 2020 2 years post Wilson. I think UConn could end up there as the 1 in 2020.

I think it's a little too soon to say whether ND or SC will be #1 seed worthy in 2020.

Well perhaps they could be a #2 seed and put them close to home in 2020....... kinda like what they did with Connecticut in 2006

There are a heck of a lot more Uconn fans on the East Coast! I kept reading last month that Bridgeport was tops in attendance, etc. Is "Money" no longer the name of the game??

How about the first 2 rounds at Gampel?

It's ALWAYS nice to have a regional in YOUR back yard.

Should be doubly fun because it will be in the new (scheduled to open this fall) DePaul arena. The arena will seat 10,000 which seems like a good number for women's basketball. Hopefully, they can fill it or come close. I don't sense that there is a huge wcbb fanbase in Chicago. But if ND is placed there you are pretty much guaranteed good attendance.
