Agree to disagree. Even the previous 5s from Uconn except Stokes are now 4s in the WNBA. The switching defense and fast flowing offense where everyone can hit outside shots has now killed the 5 at UConn. It brings in though a more exciting game. It isn't a bad thing. Just a modernization. Athleticism is now where it's at in the front court.

I like that but I also long for a strong and Mobil 5 once again. Hard to find

I wrote about this some time back. Geno really wants 5 players on the court who are capable of playing in his motion offense, hitting outside shots and switching on defense. That requires long, athletic players at the 3,4 & 5.

Stewie was the prototype. Lou, Pheesa, Z, MW, ONO, Ezi, Brunelle and Amihere all fit the profile more or less.

There are of course exceptions. Gabby is a 5’11” freak of nature who can play the 5. Boston is more of a traditional 5, but an exceptionally talented one.

Looking at the great players whose teams lose in State tourneys makes me appreciate the kids who led their teams to championships. Of course, it’s a team game and it requires quality teammates, but these kids were outstanding in the post-season:

Kelly Faris 4 championships

Maya Moore 3 championships

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis 1 or 2 championships

Morgan Tuck 2 or 3 championships

Breanna Stewart at least 1 championship

Moriah Jefferson 3 or 4 championships

Crystal Dangerfield 2 or so championships

Please correct/add to my list. I know Kelly had 4 and Maya had 3.

Boston knows that which is why she is really focusing now on a 3pt shot. I'm just saying I don't ever think we will see a Brown or McCowen type at UConn.

Not really. Only Dolson and Charles fit this description and both are playing center in the WNBA.

I have taken notice though that Geno is also actively recruiting several forwards in that class and Ezi as well as several in the 2020 class so he isn't in any way sold on her like you saw say for Danger in her class.

He may be sold on her but maybe he isn't sure if she's sold on him and UConn.................

believe me any coach would be an idiot not to want Brown or even McCowen on their team.................these are game changing players that allow their teammates much more freedom on the defensive end of the court and can bail them out when other shots aren't falling on the offensive end.............

McCowan was not recruited by UCONN, Kalani Brown was heavily recruited and could have been in the same class as KLS and Napheesa. Cox is also more of a traditional 5 that was also heavily recruited by UCONN. I don't think Geno truly has a preference and the game is not changing that much. Geno recruits basketball players & makes them better! Geno is not about to pass up on a traditional 5 if he believes he can make the player better and that player wants to come to UCONN.

In the end Cox made the right decision....................thank goodness she didn't pick UConn because with all the physical issues relating to her health last year I think she may very well have transferred to be closer to her support system at home in Texas and we would all be sadly waving good bye...............

Check it again. This past year both Dolson and Charles played the 4 almost all of the time. Charles also played the 4 in the Olympics.

Not for me. I would have been delighted if either Lauren or Kalani had chosen UCONN. Poor health and home sickness are not nearly as inevitable as you are making them out to be.

I did.
Roster - New York Liberty
List Charles as a center.

Roster - Chicago Sky

List Dolson as a center

Games of the XXXIth Olympiad 2016

USA basketball 2016 Olympic roster list Charles as a center.

Now I can see if you want to get Big Syl on the floor along with Tina how Tina might slide over and play PF but none of the other rosters have a player that play the center position better than Tina and Stefanie.

What you might be trying to say is that they are not playing the center position the traditional way or the way they used to play back in the day, but don’t get it twisted they are still playing the center position. That is really an extension of that other exaggerated concept of "positionless basketball" that so many people either overstate or completely misunderstand.

Can't cosign that. 1 player 2019 class for UCONN is not enough. If UCONN ends up with only 1 player in this class then give me Haley Jones!

You would not pick Sammy B first from
Her class with KLS graduating?
Odds you think she commits to Geno?

That's my point, it is NOT just KLS graduating, there is Napheesa and Azura also. 1 player class will not cut it.
Yes I would take Haley Jones over Samantha in the 2019 class.
The odds of her committing to Geno are pretty good since it apperas Geno has committed to her.

Brown absolutely...............in Cox's case she had a lot of trouble regulating her diabetes with the rigors of the college game..............I believe she missed multiple games last year but now has it under control............

I would rather you not tell me what I am thinking. I watched the games and in particular Charles was playing the 4 when Stokes or Zaui B were on the floor which was a lot. I also watched the Olympics when Charles was playing the 4 almost all the time with Fowles/Griner were on the floor. I watch the games which telks me more than the roster.

Not sure that comparison will prove to be accurate..................she doesn't appear to be nearly the three point shooter that KLS is but she is certainly more powerful and has an excellent mid range and back to the basket game................haven't watched her enough to determine her defensive capabilities going forward but she does seem to be a natural shot blocker...................

How could I possibly tell what you were thinking?
Amanda Zaui B played less than 5.5 MPG for the liberty so it couldn't have been "a lot". You might be confusing her with Kia Vaghn who also played center and about 20 minutes per game.
