KML joined Promete in Spain as they try to stay in the top divison:

KLS had a rather vague interview with Holly Rowe last week, but her team recently signed Evelyn Akhator to replace their other injured foreigner Nadia Colhado so with her and Shae Kelley, they currently have the maximum number of foreigners for EuroCup Women even without KLS.

Lou was on Geno`s radio show with Bob Joyce last week and that was rather vague as well. I was hoping that Bob would ask her more about Flammes Carolo but he did not, leaving room for speculation. So here goes.

She had been playing well, with 20 points in her last game. Then, she apparently injured a knee and watched a game or two from the sidelines. The next sighting was in California around Thanksgiving, and she has been in Connecticut recently working out at UConn, at ND game, Celtics, Luna Pizza, etc. My guess is she will be back to California for the holidays. After that, who knows.

She did indicate that she is working on getting stronger - Geno commented that she looks stronger - and is also working on expanding her game and her individual moves, needing to be more than just a shooter at the professional level. Major relief since whatever the injury was, it does not appear to require surgery and she seems to be participating in normal basketball activities.

My sense, reading between the lines, is that she was not enamored with her experience in France. She commented on the town being small and that she had not learned any French while there. I could be wrong about that, and in any event her perceptions probably would be colored by the injury she suffered.

From a larger perspective, I`m guessing that after the injury she (and her family) just said that for the time being, enough is enough. Ankle surgery in April 2018, after playing through it for a grueling 2017-2018 season, rehab, fairly serious back injury on Senior Day, broken wrist with Chicago, not a great situation with regard to playing time there. Maybe time to step back, take inventory, get healthy, work on things individually. Since she was recovering from an injury after her junior year, she hasn`t really had an offseason to work on things since after her sophomore season ended in 2017. It is possible that she will go back to France in January - they can presumably drop someone from the roster to make room if need be - but she didn`t indicate as much with Bob Joyce and I guess I would be surprised if she does.

In any event, she made a lot of friends in Connecticut that will be rooting for her as she moves forward with hopefully a long and successful professional career. Hard to believe that she is only 22.

Was KLS a foreigner? I thought she was playing under the GB nationality, as I believe her sister Karlie is for her Spanish team. My understanding is you can have as many Euro's on the roster, just limited to 2 US residents.

@Huskee11 I had the same reaction to Lou's comments (and lack of detail/specifics) on the Radio Show. I got the sense that she is not planning on going back to France at this time and she is potentially "without team". Her attention on strengthening herself...which would presumably include ankles, knees, etc...as well as her game inside and out, makes it look as if she is looking ahead to the WNBA season, whether it be in Chicago or elsewhere. I could see her as an "intern" at UCONN for the winter/spring, helping with the team, working as an "assistant coach" perhaps and of course gaining the benefit of the facilities (medical/Physical Therapy, and sports related) at UCONN. She would be great at it and likely be a benefit to the 2019/20 Huskies.

That sounds like a good plan. Rest, get stronger.

FIBA changed the rules for this season so she may actually be in the clear. Karlie is considered British, but the understanding is that she is classified as naturalized because she did not get her paperwork done young enough. There is a limit of one naturalized European if you carry two non-European players and two naturalized Europeans if you carry one non-European. Karlie plays with Tip Hayes as the other naturalized European and Jewell Loyd as the non-European. Under the old rules Katie Lou would have had to renounce playing for the US senior national team to be considered a European. The new rules seem to allow Europeans who play for their non-European dual nationality to still count as European, which is great news for a lot of African national teams. It is less clear what happens if you play for one nationality and then acquire another nationality, which is our best understanding of Katie Lou's situation. Either way, assuming she went ahead and got the paperwork, she is definitely counted as European in nearly all domestic leagues.

The thing that struck me with the Holly Rowe interview is that she never even mentioned playing overseas, but I guess in the context of a longer interview, she was able to talk about it more.

I would hope for this plan.

Breanna makes her debut for Ekaterinburg:

Bourges vs. Ekaterinburg 51-87 BOUR Chartereau 15 Dabovic 15 Achonwa 4 Coleman 0 UMMC Jones 14/7r Vandersloot 12/6a Torrens 12 Meesseman 11/6a Vadeeva 9/10r Griner 8/9r Quigley 6 Belyakova 4 Stewart 4 Musina 4

Faulkner is injured, but that's about the biggest superteam possible under current rules. Some of the Russian teams under the old rules might have been on that level or better.

Depending on what sites you use to follow this sort of thing, these kinds of competitions may not be covered.

Kiah and her team won the Turkish Cup today:

Bria and Barbara also played in earlier rounds.

Don't know if this was posted somewhere, but on March 5, the WNBL in Australia declared its champion.

Led by Kia Nurse, The University of Canberra Capitals claimed their ninth Chemist Warehouse WNBL title by defeating the Southside Flyers 71-68 to win the best-of-three series, two games to none.

The Capitals earned the win off a huge second half comeback led by league MVP, Kia Nurse, and WNBL Finals MVP, Rachael Sporn Medalist, Olivia Epoupa.
