One of the more interesting and strange seasons this summer for a UConn player belongs to Ben Maycock. He was a part time player for the Watertown Rapids of the Perfect Game League, getting into 23 out of 47 regular season games. As of July 8, he was hitting .154. Maycock’s bat then heated up, closing the regular season hitting .265, with an on base percentage of .463, and a slugging percentage of .485. Nice end totals, to say the least.
Maycock produced some wildly crazy statistical totals, both good and bad. In the 23 regular season games he played, Maycock struck out 31 times, almost half of his 68 at bats. I have to say that I get concerned when players strike out in a third of their at bats, that many strikeouts are not a sign for continued success. Not counted in the at bat total is the 20 walks he got, an absolutely huge total considering the number of at bats he had. In addition to the big totals in both walks and strikeouts, Maycock showed good power when he did make contact, producing 6 doubles and 3 homers.
The regular season is over, but Watertown did make the playoffs. Watertown won their first playoff game last night, and Maycock had something of a typical game, striking out twice and walking once, while scoring a run.
