For those without subscription:
A couple of schools jumped out this spring and made strong impressions on the rising junior.

"UConn and Illinois stood out to me," he said. "I liked the fact that their head coaches were the ones recruiting me."

Other schools that have recently picked up the pace with Ali include USC, UCLA, and Syracuse. He also received offers this Tuesday from UCF and USF, two in-state schools.

I'd welcome Prince back in a second. Can't blame the kid for going with what he thought was best. A redshirt year potentially with a mentor like Purvis would be great for him.

I forget...was it entirely Ali's decision to de-commit, or was this a mutual deal?
It seemed shady, he was worried we had too many 2g/wings, I think he blew up (KO reeled him in when he was top 50-75 and he had a big tourney and started getting a lot of high major interest. If u follow college football, recruitment of kids from South Florida often can get dicey.

Buddy Hield as a freshman: 38.8% FG, 23.8% 3P. Things can turn around quickly...

As for recruiting, Alford is notorious for recruiting committed players. Compton Magic is like a farm team for them and fringes on forcing kids to commit there.

My impression is it was one-sided. Ali's stock was exploding and it seemed like he wanted the attention of an open recruitment and to attract "bigger" names.

Will Jackson was the one whose fortunes were trending the other way, it was becoming apparent he wouldn't be more than an end of the bench guy for us, and that de-commitment was mutual. He ended up at Georgia. It looks like we were right -- last year Jackson averaged 1.6 ppg on 29% shooting in 8 mpg.

He is an athlete and has talent but he did nothing at UCLA, it is also a dumpster fire there so kind of hard to judge. Seemed at the time he was scared about Jalen being recruited after he had committed.

Next year he'd be fighting for minutes with Ball (5 Star Stud Freshman), DHam's bro and the coach's son. With Jalen, Alterique and possibly Hami, I don't think we're a fit this time around. He'll probably go to where the cupboards are bare: St John's, Michigan, etc.

I don't want anymore transfers that slighted us the first time around. This isn't a homeless shelter.
Lol.

That said, I don't really have a problem myself. Purvis has been successful (despite some grumblings here), and I have high hopes for Larrier. Ali would be a nice addition, I think. We'll have space for him, and even if we have Diallo I think he'll have playing time.

I would be surprised if we're his top option, though.

I don't think I'm going to say an 18 year slighted Ollie when all the kid was trying to do was trying to figure out his future. No easy task, and at that point Purvis was being called a Ferrari in waiting at the 2, and we were favorites to land Adams too.

If he's afraid of competition we aren't a good fit. There's also the chance that he just realized his coach was awful and wasn't helping him develop. Obviously Diallo is going to be the priority, but there's room for both.

To be fair neither Purvis nor Larrier actually publically committed to UConn to my knowledge.
