From Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com.

Former Xavier commit looking to latch on in the spring

It looked like Melvin Swift was ending his recruitment in November of 2012, when he pledged to Xavier. However, less than 10 months later, Swift opened things back up.

And he's still on the board.

“It's down to UConn, UMass, SMU, Baylor and Georgia Tech,” Swift said.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Yates (Texas) only has one visit set up: Massachusetts.

“They're good,” Swift said. “And I have an old teammate there, Clyde Santee.”

The Minutemen and Connecticut are coming at Swift the hardest. He plans to make a decision in March.

Don't listen to him about anything he says about UConn. He's just trying to pull us or other schools into his recruitment. We aren't interested. He told people that he was going to commit here about two months ago, it never happened. He told people he was going to commit here a month ago, it never happened. I believe it when I see it from him.

The downside of schools not being allowed to comment on kids until an LOI is signed is that any kid can claim a school is after him and nothing can be said to refute it.

The funny thing is there is no scholarship for him at UMass either. Granted, there may be something going on behind the scenes with a current player that I know nothing about. What I've heard is that UMass was staying close in the event that he is a non-qualifier academically. He could enroll for next year but would not take up a scholarship until 2015-2016.
He made the statement that UConn and UMass were coming at him the hardest and neither of those things makes a lot of sense to me.
