According to the Google machine, JO Christian field (UConn's home field from 1968 until a couple years ago) had outfield dimensions of 340 - 370 - 405 - 370 - 340. I'm not sure it those were the distances when it was built or after it was "expanded" in 1993, but those are decent numbers in this day of aluminum/composite bats. This field (and Georgetown's, among others) is a joke. True, a joke for both sides, but these are beer league softball scores. In my rapidly aging brain, I seem to recall that JO's left and right field were 330 back around 1970.
There should be minimums…there is no need to play in High school ballparks. It makes the game look silly. Our pitching didn’t help today.

Bottom line is both teams play on the same field. Their defense was great today and ours not so much.
Yes I believe 3 errors with extra bases in their. (Rbi’s)

Agreed, especially for schools (or other venues) that want to host regionals. Pick a number - 330 down the line(s), say - and include the height of the fence if need be. So a 315 foul line and an 8' (= 323 feet for those of you without your pocket calculators) fence wouldn't qualify, unless they put a temporary extension on the fence for the regional. I didn't see any of today's game except a few highlights here, but I did see the replay of David Smith's opposite field homer. It looked like he lunged at a pitch that was a little outside and still poked it over the fence in straightaway left (330-ish)?

Sigh…UConn goes up 2-0 But Xavier answers with 4 of their own and still no outs in the bottom of the 2nd.UConn gets out of the inning with no further damage…4-2 X.

Shades of Georgetown and Maryland.

I know the Rutgers series was high scoring, but that felt more like baseball with Rutgers skillfully hitting to the opposite side of the field, UConn drawing walks off long at bats, etc.

.-.
And…no surprise….it’s tied at 5 just like that. Damage limited to just one run.

Nice catch by Studley, despite that stupid terrace in left.

Smith walks, steals second, moves to third on a wild pitch. Studley walks and now Smith scores on a wild pitch to put UConn up 6-5. Studley to second. Broadhurst walks and X will yank their pitcher. Much of this happened with 2 outs. (Freeburger grounded out and Huber K’d.) A chance for Daniels here. 4th walk of the inning loads em up for Morton who lines out to ss to end the inning. 6-5 good guys.

Haven't heard about any beefs about the strike zone in 2 1/2 games. Pretty good? Or just so much offense that no one has noticed.

Another Xavier HR…it would have been an HR anywhere…ties it at 6. It was a bomb. That’s all for X and we are back to square one.

Smith with a 2 out double, Freeburger follows with another double and UConn is back up 7-6 heading to B6.

B6 X gets a runner to 2nd but that is all. UConn up 7-6 after 6. Nice catch by Studley to end the inning…probably saved a run.

The old adage that the guy who makes a great play in the field usually follows up with some offense didn’t work here. Studley Ks to lead off the inning. Broadhurst grounds out. Daniels walks and steals second, but that’s all. Still 7-6.

Valiant effort for Quigley. He come out with one out and one on in the 7th. One out short of his season long. Brady Afthim in to pitch. Great catch by Bri! Robs Dimartino of a hit. It was a jam shot, blooped into shallow left…he was the only one with a chance to make a play on it. Homer by McCormick makes it 8-7 X. Not a cheapie. A walk and another pitching change incoming. Ellisen coming in.

Very good defense in game 2 after a rare off game in that department game 1. Offense will need to show up in the 8th and 9th inning to steal this series.
