Back to back singles give UConn runners at the corners with no one out. Cmon freeberger!

Smith steals second.

Studley with an rbi single to make it 5-3 with one out. Smith had to hold.

Sac fly by Broadhurst increases the lead to 6-3.

2 run RBI single by Padilla makes it 8-3! Amenities!

Top 9th, Morton with a speed induced infield single to leadoff the inning, he steals 2B with no out. Smith singles to put runners on the corners with no out, and he steals 2B with no out to put 2 runners in scoring position. With 1 out, Huber is intentionally walked to load the bases. Studley follows with a 1 out rbi single, 5-3 UConn. Broadhurst with a sac fly that advances all the runners, 6-3 UConn. Padilla drives in 2 more runs with a single, 8-3 UConn.

Nice win. Let’s get the…I didn’t say it.

Afthim threw only 7 pitches, so I would think he would be available for the second game. Coe has not yet pitched in this series, and Willis is available for the second game as well. Would not be surprised if Mike Quigley gets an inning as well, but we'll see how Jack Sullivan does in the second game.

Nowak has not pitched in this series as well.

With three steals in four attempts in game 1, the Huskies are now 58/69 (84%) in the SB column. Smith (2 for 2) is 20/22 and Morton is 14/14. Both are hitting under .260, so imagine the stolen base totals if they were hitting where they are capable. Also of note, Ryan Daniels is 9/9.

Studley continues to live up to his name! 1-0 UConn and we’re forcing a good number of pitches from this guy.

Chris Jones says the St. John's starting pitcher just recently came back from Tommy John surgery, so he won't be in the game for a long time, definitely on a tight pitch count.

Top 2nd, UConn offense strands a runner in scoring position. 1-0 UConn.

Bottom 2nd, Sullivan with a scoreless inning after a 1 out walk. 1-0 UConn.

Top 3rd, Freeberger and Huber with 1 out singles puts 2 runners on base, both move up to scoring position on a wild pitch. Studley sac fly advances both runners, 2-0 UConn. Broadhurst is hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners, but that is it for the UConn offense that inning.

Studley having himself a day season!

No question, he has been doing well all season. I was thinking early on that he should move into the 2nd spot in the batting order, but has taken over the clean off spot in the order very well.

Bottom 3rd, a 2 out rbi double for St. John's, 2-1 UConn. A walk and a hit by pitch loads up the bases. An RBI single drives in 2 more runs, 3-2 St. John's. A strikeout finally ends the inning. Sullivan now at 58 pitches, Ellisen was warming up that inning.

Chris Jones thinks this will be the last inning for the St. John's starting pitcher, who is coming back from injury and Tommy John surgery.
