Top 8th, a leadoff error on Freeberger puts a runner on base. A 2 out double puts 2 runners in scoring position. Fogell coming out, Justin Willis coming in to pitch.

Willis gets a strikeout to end the inning with no runs coming in. 4-3 UConn.

Bottom 8th, Hyde with a leadoff single, Drew Kron pinch runs, so Garbowski will catch the last inning.

Smith walks and Daniels reaches on an infield error to load the bases with 1 out. Freeberger follows with a walk to bring in a run, 5-3 UConn. A Studley fielders choice ground out brings in another run, 6-3 UConn. Broadhurst walks to load the bases again with 2 outs. Pitching change.

Bases loaded walk by Freeberger brings in an amenity. 5-3 UConn. An RBI fielder's choice by Studley makes it 6-3. 2 away, 2 on.

Georgetown's normally decent defense has made some crucial mistakes today.

Speed forces errors

Speed creates errors

Also, Chris Jones has noted during the broadcast that Georgetown does not have much team speed, which affects their defense.

On to the top of the 9th, UConn up 6-3.

UConn defensive changes. Garbowski at catcher, Simmons now in CF, Smith moves to LF, Morton comes out.

Chris Jones says the 10 run mercy rule after 7 innings is in effect for this game. I believe it is regularly in effect for the last game of each Big East weekend series.

Bottom 1st, Daniels with a 1 out bunt single, he advances to 2B on a throwing error by the 3B. Studley with a 2 out RBI single, 1-0 UConn.

I can understand on a Sunday but why on a Saturday afternoon game?

Standard rule for the last game of a 3 game conference series in the Big East, that's the impression I got from what Chris Jones said.

Chris Jones thinking the pitch limit for Cooke today may be around 50 pitches.

A couple of hits by Daniels and Studley nets UConn a run in the bottom of the 1st. 1-0 going to the 2nd.

Georgetown's pitcher throws mid 90's and had a great year at Lafayette last year. He's the kind of pitcher I would expect to transfer to us or Wake Forest, not Georgetown. This should be a good test.

Top 2nd, after 2 strikeouts to start the inning, Cooke issues 2 walks, and then gives up an RBI single. Game tied at 1. Another walk loads the bases, and then a single brings in 2 more runs, 3-1 Georgetown.

Jack Sullivan warming up in the bullpen.

Cooke walks another batter to load the bases, but then Smith makes a great catch in CF to end the inning. 3-1 Georgetown.

Cooke is at 46 pitches at the end of the inning, so if he is on that pitch count of 50, he won't be around much longer in this game. After the 2 strikeouts that inning, he just lost his control.

Top 3rd, after a single and an infield error on Daniels, Cooke strands 2 runners in scoring position. 3-1 Georgetown. Cooke with 2 strikeouts that inning, he is at 65 pitches.
