Be nice to get a little revenge after getting swept down there last year.

Georgetown and Xavier baseball share some similarities, although at this point Xavier is the better team. Xavier and Georgetown both have home fields that are band boxes, and both teams are built to take advantage of their home fields with offense and power. In my mind it is an advantage to play a team like this away from their home ballpark. Last season UConn baseball played Georgetown on the road, and that was not to UConn's advantage.

After being swept on the road by Georgetown in the final Big East series of last season, UConn baseball ended up playing Georgetown in UConn's first game in the Big East Baseball Tournament last season. The Huskies won that game 4-0, so that was a nice piece of revenge right there.

For many years Georgetown baseball was frequently in the bottom half of the Big East year by year standings, a distinction they often shared with Villanova. The last couple of years has seen Georgetown on the upswing from where they were in the Big East baseball standings, which was often pretty poor. It is still good to see a perennial poor Big East baseball team such as Georgetown starting to show some improvement, and getting their RPI out of the 200's where they often dwelled.

<The Huskies are slated to throw LHP Andrew Sears, RHP Stephen Quigley and TBA for the series finale.>

So nothing definite on Ian Cooke being back in action this coming weekend.
Dang. Starting to think Cookie is hurt worse than we originally thought. Gonna need at least two or three arms to step up in the coming weeks because with the upcoming SOS we unfortunately can’t really afford to lose any series.

Last week during game broadcasts Chris Jones was saying that Ian Cooke would not be available to pitch during the Xavier series, but that he was expected back for the weekend against Georgetown. He did not say what his injury was. At any rate, with TBA listed for Saturday, who knows what is going on with Cooke.

UConn has not lost a series all season, not bad considering the inconsistent pitching. Still, UConn would be better off having Cooke available to pitch.

Guessing that TBA is Cooke if he feels well enough by Saturday, and if not, then Sully or Kirby.

Ugh, these start time changes are a total bummer for me. We’ve been planning on taking our 20-month-old and his grandma visiting from Arizona to this series for months, but they just moved both Friday and Saturday’s games right into nap time for our toddler.

Didn’t we shut georgetown out at Xavier’s bandbox after they swept us at home? That was funny.

The Big East baseball tournament for the last few years has been hosted by Xavier, but it is not held at their home field. Same thing this season as well.

And yes, UConn beat Georgetown in their first game in the Big East tournament, UConn's first game after being swept by Georgetown in the last regular season series.

Looks like it will be a bullpen game for Georgetown. Hopefully will be able to work the bullpen hard ahead of a doubleheader tomorrow

Just noticed that Huber has more strikeouts now (50) than hits (49). Getting ready for the big leagues, I guess.

Bottom 1st, UConn offense picks up 2 walks, but they are left on base. No score.

Top 2nd, Sears with a 1-2-3 inning, picking up his 3rd strikeout on the game. No score. Sears is at 22 pitches, so he has been pretty efficient so far.

Bottom 2nd, a scoreless inning for the UConn offense. Padilla had reached base on a leadoff walk, stole 2B, and tried to advance to 3B on a fly out. However, he left 2B too early, and was called out due to that. No score.

.-.
Bottom 3rd, Morton with a leadoff walk, he advances to 2B on a sac bunt. UConn offense has 3 leadoff walks so far this game.

Chris Jones on the game broadcast thinks both sac bunts so far were bunts that were trying for hits, but the bunter was thrown out at 1B.

Huber with a 2 out infield single which drives in Morton who had previously advanced to 3B on another out. 1-0 UConn.

Top 4th, another 1-2-3 inning for Sears, he is very sharp today. 1-0 UConn. 42 pitches so far for Sears today, if he keeps this up he will certainly help save a good chunk of the bullpen for tomorrow's doubleheader.

Bottom 4th, Broadhurst with a leadoff walk for the Huskies, each inning so far the leadoff batter for UConn has walked. Pitching change.

Broadhurst moves to 3B after an error on a pick off attempt. Tammaro picks up an RBI on a 1 out infield single. 2-0 UConn.

Morton with a 2 out 2 run homer, 4-0 UConn.
