The gorilla would be Arnold.
The gorilla would be Arnold.
Grizzly and it's not close.
I hear you. I think that's a very "realistic" view of a pretty "unrealistic" scenario. If you want to make the argument for the humans, they're all ready to die a very gruesome death to accomplish the task and that's not very realistic. It'd be human nature to run for the hills after watching a gorilla rip off limbs and bite the face off the guy next to you.I wanna live inside the head of anyone who takes the human side in this debate. To surround the it, some amount of men are going to have to sacrifice their lives, and good luck convincing any average dude with a normal future to be the sacrifice.
Possibly true. It's also possibly true that a gorilla seeing 100 naked guys running at him would think "I have no idea what this is, but I don't want any part of it."I hear you. I don’t see the fun in the question if you take away the human psychology, but it is a different question if the humans don’t have any fear or capability of critical thought.I hear you. I’m sure the gorilla would be afraid if it was surrounded and couldn’t run away, but once it’s cornered, it’s not gonna just lay down and give up. If the question was “could 100 humans scare a gorilla into running away,” I’m sure they could with proper preparation.Possibly true. Gimme the humans.
First 30-40 are toast and will be mauled but eventually the gorilla tires and the humans stomp it to death.
AI agrees with me.

It would probably take around 5 Tom Haviland's to take out a Silverback with his bare hands. Not sure about a Grizzly/Kodiak/Polar bear...Yeah i never understood the Grizzly v Gorilla thing. Grizzly are far bigger and are basically a biological death machine with an insane bite and razor sharp massive claws. As far as 100 men v a gorilla goes all 100 cannot attack at once but if the men are determined enough the gorilla will tire. Problem is how many men would be left to finish him off by reigning down fists and stomping him to death? Also someone said go for the eyes. They dont understand the utter rage and fight being blinded would unleash from that animal. This would have to be a brutal war of attrition that would be a horror to see. I think eventually numbers win out but these men would all have to be big powerful humans. No 5`8 160lb man will be able to generate enough force to wear down such a powerful animal. I think in the end the animal goes down more so from exhaustion and is then vulnerable to being finished off by whoever is left.
With apologies to Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until the gorilla rips off the first guys head.Gimme the humans.

I don’t know the answer but I question the comments that the gorilla would tire easily. I think the first 20 humans get mauled before it breaks a sweat.Gimme the humans.

The gorilla gets stomped to death. 100 men? It will take out some along the way, but eventually it will succomb. It all depends, are the 100 men using weapons or just hand to hand combat.
If its just hand to hand it would be like 100 flies vs 1 Man. The Gorilla would be mildly annoyed at best vs 100 men
I'll take the humans because we're not wimps when touching cold water like this.

6 feet tall. 400 lbs and capable of lifting 10 times its own weight. Grabbing a guy and squashing his skull is like you or I squashing a ripe cantaloupe.
So your gameplan would be let some dudes sacrifice themselves to create an opening? How are you convincing anyone to do that? The gorilla gets stomped to death. 100 men? It will take out some along the way, but eventually it will succomb.
I don’t think so, with your bare hands how you going to injure it? Punch, kick, try and pull its limbs, jump on it? Only a few people at a time could attack at once. The gorilla gets stomped to death. 100 men? It will take out some along the way, but eventually it will succomb.
100 people is a ton of people. The gorilla gets stomped to death. 100 men? It will take out some along the way, but eventually it will succomb.

I think the assumption is that no tools or weapons are to be used. Great idea about tiring it out chasing it. IIRC large apes run at about the same speed as humans but tire out faster.100 people is a ton of people.
The only way this premise makes any sense to me is if the men have to fight. They don't have an option to run away. If it's naked, with literally nothing to use as a tool, then I'm not 100% sold on 100 "average" men. But if it's 100 men between 20-40 and there are rocks and sticks then the men have it easy.
The men also win easy if it's out in open space. They can just chase the gorilla and tire it out first or run it to death. I don't see a gorilla squaring up against 100 dudes.
Why attack the gorilla at all?
With 100 men, you could encircle the gorilla using sheer numbers, noise, and chaos without ever directly confronting it, keeping it confused, worn out, and tired.
Small bands of neolithic hunters used to take down mammoths with nothing more than spears and their own testicular fortitude.
Encircling wouldn't work. The silverback would only need to get by two men in order to run away. Oh, and the can climb trees.
But if it runs away, the men win.
