100 men vs 1 silverback gorilla

I'm not sure it's possible for 100 men to grab onto Magilla all at the same time. Maybe 10 men at first? I'm lining up in the back so when I see the first wave of 10, 20, 30 men ripped apart, I'm high-tailing it out of here.

You could have 10 waves of 10 linebackers charge at the gorilla and give him their best shot. That's gotta do some damage. Or Rugby players if going without equipment. Unless it's a Jujitsu Gorilla. Then he definitely gets the edge.

Speaking of strong men, this guy Anatoly is pretty good.

Another item to think about is how would you kill the gorilla? I don’t know if a human punch or kick is strong enough to damage its skull. I think you’d have to smother or strangle it.

I'll take the humans because we're not wimps when touching cold water like this.

You've never seen my brother getting in a pool with 78 degree water then, and you're probably better for it.

I don’t know the answer but I question the comments that the gorilla would tire easily. I think the first 20 humans get mauled before it breaks a sweat.

6 feet tall. 400 lbs and capable of lifting 10 times its own weight. Grabbing a guy and squashing his skull is like you or I squashing a ripe cantaloupe.

No need to debate me. I'm merely a conduit of information for others. Argue with the computers.

The gorilla gets stomped to death. 100 men? It will take out some along the way, but eventually it will succomb.
So your gameplan would be let some dudes sacrifice themselves to create an opening? How are you convincing anyone to do that?

I also feel like a lot of people ignore the lack of space for the men to work with. Maybe 10 max can fit in the space directly around the thing, he’s not fighting 100 at once.

I don’t think so, with your bare hands how you going to injure it? Punch, kick, try and pull its limbs, jump on it? Only a few people at a time could attack at once.

You ever see the video of a sumo wrestler doing tug of war vs an orangutan? The strength difference between humans and apes is incredible.

100 people is a ton of people.

The only way this premise makes any sense to me is if the men have to fight. They don't have an option to run away. If it's naked, with literally nothing to use as a tool, then I'm not 100% sold on 100 "average" men. But if it's 100 men between 20-40 and there are rocks and sticks then the men have it easy.

The men also win easy if it's out in open space. They can just chase the gorilla and tire it out first or run it to death. I don't see a gorilla squaring up against 100 dudes.

I think the assumption is that no tools or weapons are to be used. Great idea about tiring it out chasing it. IIRC large apes run at about the same speed as humans but tire out faster.

Why attack the gorilla at all?

With 100 men, you could encircle the gorilla using sheer numbers, noise, and chaos without ever directly confronting it, keeping it confused, worn out, and tired.

Small bands of neolithic hunters used to take down mammoths with nothing more than spears and their own testicular fortitude.

Encircling wouldn't work. The silverback would only need to get by two men in order to run away. Oh, and the can climb trees.

But if it runs away, the men win.

I will abide by no rule that was changed after replies had begun.
It was already in play. You'll note above that people said that once the gorilla mauled 10 guys, the rest of the hundred would run away and the gorilla would win.

Nope. Read the original most.

"Who would win in a fight to the death?"

That is it.

OK, that's fair, but then we have to throw out every post that suggests the men will run away and we have to throw away the added criteria that the men are naked and that they have to fight barehanded and can't pick up wood and sharpen them into spears.

People are way overestimating the stamina of a gorilla in extended combat.
Stamina was one of the defining characteristics of early human hunters. They would run down faster prey eventually exhausting it.

It may be the reason bipedal locomotion evolved - efficient energy usage over very long distances. Humans perfected a new form of predation: exhaustion hunting.

if the men are picked randomly from a phonebook, you're not gonna find too many who are in good shape. It'll be a bunch of fat bastards.

Yeah, that's true.
