It's not the cable. The phone won't even notice the attempt to charge. I've tried to "blow out" the charger port, and replace the cable - no luck.

I use AT&T but I have no interest in driving 30 min to buy an iPhone without signing a contract or changing carrier.

What is the easiest way to replace an iPhone w/AT&T as a carrier? I'll even change carriers if it can be done seamlessly online.

See what kind of deal you can get trading it in. My wife traded her 10 year old iPhone in last year and got a new one for free. The guy working in the store actually said it’s the best deal he’d ever seen.

Definitely check out Back Market. I got my iPhone there for $163 out the door. Does more than I need it to, was in excellent shape, had a warranty, etc. Two years in and no issues. Highly recommend.

Do they move the current phone number to the new phone.

U just buy the device from them and they ship it in a couple days or so. When u get it u just swap out the SIM card from your old phone and everything stays the same. It’s easy but if you’ve never done it before or have any questions about it, a quick google search will bring up all the info u need, including transfer of data - like photos - from your old device.

I had thought the SIM was sealed inside my iPhone. I just googled the model and found a video showing the tiny hole on the right side that opens the SIM port.

I’m have old iPhones laying around and I’m sure I’m not the only one. My phones are Verizon though so not sure you could hook them to AT&T.

Don’t get a new phone. Not never. That thing cost you a grand when it was new. Better last a damn lifetime. Don’t listen to the suckers!! Resist!! Resist!!!!!

Edit: My phone unexpectedly shut off before I could add one more thing..

RESIST!!!!

And the humiliation you'll suffer from the people working the Genius Bar is absolutely free!
I was going to suggest going to the back-up phone even though it woudn't be nearly as sophisticated as the 10 year old phone. reminded me of the classic seen "I got another car, my wife drives it, but that's nothing special, just transportation"

I did try the pad in my car, but I think the battery was too far gone to see it charging in the few minutes I was in the car.

I'll try again later now that it has been fully charged, and I'll get back to you.
I’m highly invested in this outcome

All VZ phones get unlocked after a few months. Any old ones should work I believe.
Depends on when they switched over to the current radios that are now common across all networks. Verizon was very proprietary (CDMA) for quite some time. But 2014 would likely be a hybrid.

The way wireless charging works is that there's a coil overlayed on the battery. The charger also has a coil. It creates a magnetic field and charges the battery through induction.

Older phones don't have the coil on the battery, so there's no charge.
