Interesting, Chris Jones mentioned during a recent game broadcast that UConn wants to play some of the better New England teams twice every season, but it can't always be done due to scheduling conflicts. Rhode Island is one of those teams, UConn's last midweek game this season will be against URI as well.

Get the win and it’s a nice, unexpected benefit that the RPI won’t take the hit that the cancelled game would have. On the other hand, five games a week is tough given the inability of starters to average more than four plus innings.

In addition to now having just 1 midweek game this week, next week is finals week at UConn, so there are no midweek games scheduled next week. There is only one five game week left on the regular season schedule for UConn.

Also, even if the pitching is not as strong as we would like, I think these five game weeks are good preparation for post season tournaments, especially the conference tournament and the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament when you have to play a bunch of games in a condensed amount of time.

Bottom 1st, Simmons with a 1 out walk in his first at bat since his injury. Freeberger follows with a double to put 2 runners in scoring position. Studley drives in 2 runs with a 1 out double, 2-0 UConn. With 2 out and 2 runners in scoring position, Padilla drives in 2 runs with a single where he winds up at 2B on the throw. 4-0 UConn.

Former UConn pitcher David Fischer is the pitching coach for URI. Fischer was taken in the 2012 MLB draft, and spent some time in the minor leagues.

Top 2nd, Coe with a scoreless inning after giving up a 2 out walk and wild pitch. 4-0 UConn.
 
Bottom 2nd, Morton with a leadoff double, moves to 3B on a throwing error on a pick off. Smith with an RBI ground out, 5-0 UConn. With 2 outs, 2 singles put runners on the corners. A run scores on a throwing error when Studley steals 2B. 6-0 UConn.

Top 3rd, Coe with a scoreless inning, stranding a runner at 3B who had a 1out walk, stole 2B, and advanced to 3B on a wild pitch. 6-0 UConn.

M. Quigley was warming up that inning.
