10 Players to Watch - FIBA U17 Women's World Cup games start next Saturday

Too bad for Emilia Krstevski, she hasn't taken part in a match yet and I don't know why, despite my research. Canada may have lost another player yesterday when Chance Berry twisted her left ankle in pain.

Another kid who's made noticeable improvements in a year. Her fitness and court awareness are much better. And for a 6-4 15 year old big, her hands, quickness to the ball, passing, and motor are exceptional.
Australia ganged up on Olivia in their match up: double and triple teaming in the paint,
when one on one fouling Olivia to pevent her "Moves" ( Canada's head coach rotated
three players to commite those fouls and pevent any one player from getting into
foul touble = rather have the ball taken out on the sideline when Australia was
not over the limit in team fouls). Also Canads's # 2 Fagan is 6'2" but slim and
quick and a good leaper ( blocking Olivia one time). So credit the Australia H.C.
and team for limiting Olivia, e.g. Denying entry passes to her into the PAINT . Australia
used 11 players, Croatia 8 so there could have been a fatigue factor in there.
Olivia was determined, made good passes, did not lose her composure. Ruby
Perkins and Lara Somfai shot LIGHTS OUT in the Third Period when Australia
scored 41 Points! Go Croatia, Go OLIVIA. ONE PROBLEM: NEXT UP : THE USA!!

Is it possible you have the countries confused here? Or did they play in a friendly in advance of the tournament?

There is no one on the Canadian roster with the names you noted. Secondly, the Canadian coach is not someone who uses that type of tactic from what I've seen from her teams over the years. I would really be surprised if she did.

It looks like you have the wrong Commonwealth country in mind here. Fagan plays for Australia. ;)

The only suspense in the US/Egypt game will be watching to see if the US coach runs full court pressure the entire game trying to get to 200 pts.
It's obviously distressing to see a coach so insistent on an full court press defense for such a long part of the game. This has not always been the case. In 2018, Carla Berube coached the U.S. U17 team to a 52-point victory in the final without resorting to this defense. This year's U17 team has so much to offer, though, and I'd love to see more of her immensely talented players. You can watch the final game of 2018 on the front page of this thread. A chance to see Paige and Azzi.

I agree, it's classless. The Indiana coach, Moren, did the same thing in the recent U18 Americup. Humiliated 5 undeveloped teams in a row before finally playing a competitive Canada in the final. She even had starters playing in the 4th qtr with 60-70 point leads. And then yuck it up and dance in front of the opponents on the floor at the end of the game. Maybe USABB calls it their scorched earth policy, a great image to project.

Is it me or was this very different from how Moren coaches her Indiana team? Found that to be very unusual when I watched FIBA Americas.

Not sure. It could be 1) Her preferred style/strategy that she's not able to use at Indiana because she never has such an overwhelming advantage in talent and or size. Or 2) She's willing to do it to satisfy a uniform style/strategy dictated by USAWBB management. Either way it's still classless.
