“Fall” 2021 TV Viewership

proving, once again, it's all just more data supporting the reality that
wbb is nothing more than the Huskie Invitational Tournament. the rest of the pretenders are just squirrels, looking for a nut.
roll out geno, buckets, and the rest for a big game, and who do you think wbb fans, of any stripe, will be watching, hmmm? woof!
squirrel here stealing some nuts.

"...the (2021) title game between Arizona and Stanford attracted an average of 4 million viewers on Sunday, peaking at 5.9 million. The network said it was the most-watched women’s contest since 2014....

...Stanford’s victory over South Carolina drew an average of 1.6 million viewers, while the University of Connecticut loss to Arizona had 2.6 million viewers, up 24% from the 2019 second semifinal contest."

Ya think? (Just kidding around).

Five out of top ten including all of the Top 4. 5 outta' the Top 6. SCar should bring huge numbers this Saturday with Gameday and ABC coverage but we'll see if it encroaches on UConn's Top 4.

I'd be shocked if Saturday's ABC game doesn't do monster numbers, given it is women's basketball. A UConn/SC game would have blown a hole through the ceiling, but SC & TN is a strong draw.

For the sake of context, it should be noted that 22 men's college basketball games across the country have topped the five-million-viewer mark this season.
Key point - I found this "data point" from 2015.

"Both Duke vs. North Carolina contests were the two most-watched college games of the season with the March 7 game averaging 4,241,000 viewers and the February 18 telecast averaging 4,136,000 viewers".

While it is frustrating for those of us who follow WBB and would like to see more, we are a relatively small number in the pool of sports fans in general and basketball in particular.

Looking up at the views on this thread, they pale in comparison to MBB. As ESPN continues to see cord cutting and a decline in subscribers, the challenge to increase WBB broadcasting only becomes greater.

An interesting note to this is that UConn is pulling in these ratings during a “down year“. That speaks to brand value.

The Tennessee vs SCar game is apparently the most watched since 2017.

Anybody know what game drew the bigger eyeballs in 2017?

Pretty sure it was UConn beating South Carolina to win its 100th consecutive game. Monday night game.

The 2017 game was on ESPN2 and attracted more than 1.2 million viewers.

That’s a good thing. It seems like women’s basketball fandom continues to expand. I’m not sure how generalizable it is because it is tough to make apples to apples comparisons to the men’s game since women’s games are often on undesirable channels. Connecticut has had games which out draw competing men’s games and on occasion competing pro sports. And those are breakthrough moments.

Since 95, the big names in college basketball have drawn eyeballs. South Carolina is one of those names now.

More like ESPN effect. This was the most watched Big Ten game of the year. It was not a Big Ten Network telecast. It was carried by a ESPN channel that is more available nationwide than BTN.

As someone who watches women's and men's basketball, having both reveals on the same time was too much for me and there ended up not being anything that I was following in the sports world on Monday, but the numbers show that it was the best time for ESPN to go to the women's bracket after their time on the men's bracket.

It's wild how much viewer pull legacy programs like UConn and Tennessee have. The only other games in the same ballpark were the Iowa upset and SCAR's game against Miami, both of which were on ABC, and therefore presumptively likelier to draw viewers.

The UConn v Mercer game on Saturday was not shown by the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia which is the country’s 4th largest media market. It was preempted by soccer.

What gets me is that it was on a Monday night and the highest numbers were on ESPN and not ABC. There are a lot more people that get ABC vs ESPN.
