Remember Jackson State Head Coach Tomekia Reed?

She has more than paid her dues. I hope JSU can find a worthy successor.

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

This is very bad news to me! And shocking. Amina has been a valuable player. With Gaston, Faye and Muhammad gone (Gaston is going to Auburn) Texas suddenly is short on players at the 4/5 spots. And why now?

    HBCU’s and scheduling conundrum

Texas has played Jackson State the last 3 seasons, including a game at Jackson state in the 22-23 season. Like Geno, Vic was impressed with Coach Reed and her team when the teams met in Austin.

    Let the Carousel begin!

Works both ways. The transfer portal opening with the tournament barely underway increases the pressure to fill head coach vacancies quickly. The new coach needs to try to retain the best players from the previous staff’s team and hit the portal to bring in players.

    Iowa State Freshman Audi Crooks

Back to Audi Crooks - tonight 40 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks. 18 of 20 from the field. Oh my. Love to watch her play.

A WOW performance by Iowa State this afternoon

I am expecting a good game tomorrow between ISU and Texas. I’ve enjoyed watching this ISU team. The way they work together to maximize Crooks’ strengths and mitigate the consequences of her weaknesses is interesting to watch. I even appreciate Emily Ryan’s game more. She facilitates for the...

Ranking the freshmen class so far

I could agree to this. It would help the cause if Madison had a big game to lead the Horns to victory in Norman next week! I would not even object if Crooks and Booker shared the FOY award. Either would have been a shoo-in for the award any other year in Big 12 history. I know, I have been...

Ranking the freshmen class so far

Currently, Crooks is second in scoring in conference games at 20.1 pts per game. Booker is third at 19.6 per game. Crooks scored 24 points at Texas. And Coach Schaefer said after the game that Texas’ Jones and Gaston had played well against her!

Legit, you need to add Texas to that list.

    Big 12 thread ('23-'24)

It’s a tough time of the year - half way through conference, 2 games a week, with games that may be less than 72 hours a part. Lots of credit to the players of UCF and Cinci for staying engaged and playing with great energy.

    Rori Harmon

Rori worked so hard for this season. She and Texas were getting the kind of notice needed to make Rori a legitimate candidate for national end of year awards. So disappointed for Rori.

    Rori Harmon

Informal reports say she was injured in practice. I have not read. a formal report yet. She was on the bench for last night’s game wearing a leg brace. At the half, she was seen limping.

    Big 12 thread ('23-'24)

Texas fan here. We Texas fans were not expecting any favors under the circumstances. Playing Baylor twice is a tough draw, of course. But it makes a lot of sense for the conference. The two teams are expected to be at or near the top of the conference standings. The schools are geographically...

    11/27/23 AP poll

Texas #10. UConn #11. I am a Texas fan. I do not like this at all. Texas has not played a team in the top 50, let alone the top twenty-five or top 10. Looking forward to Sunday to get an idea of how the team is progressing.

Best collegiate players whose pro careers didn't pan out

I’d say Collier was a bit of a disappointment as a college player. I am a Texas fan who was not that sorry to see her leave a year early. I don’t know how much Geno could have gotten her to develop more.

Oh right. Still think WVU played well with a personnel disadvantage. The team looked well coached.

    New Minnesota Coach

Even so, I thought her team played respectably against Arizona, a team with more heralded players playing on their home floor. The big hole where West Virginia’s front court should have been was a killer. New West Virginia coach will have a huge challenge early - even bigger if J J Quinerly...

Ole Miss takes down Stanford (merged)

Guards, guards, guards. Vic Schaefer has been repeating it every press conference, you win with great guard play. He particularly says that about “this time of year.” Other good/great coaches have emphasized the importance of guards as well. Why is Stanford not getting guard talent anywhere...

    Big 12 Regular Season

Completely agree on the state of the Big 12. Makes for an exciting conference season. ISU, TX, OU, and Baylor share the lead right now, but Kansas is right there with its 2 losses coming to Baylor and Texas. As a Texas fan, it would be more fun if the team hadn't gotten off to such a weak...

A Top 25 list "Most Intriguing Players for 2022-2023"

Yes, I think the roster has more talent. Ah, Lattimore. I just loved Lattimore. I hope she has great success. We didn’t get to see her much because she was set back by her injury. But she showed great flashes. I am a great fan and a poor analyst. But I think maybe Lattimore needs more...

A Top 25 list "Most Intriguing Players for 2022-2023"

Maybe “intriguing” is sometimes like beauty, in the eye of the beholder? Your starting lineup for Texas looks likely, but this year there is talent behind talent to make things a bit more interesting.

A Top 25 list "Most Intriguing Players for 2022-2023"

In addition to Taylor Jones, Texas added 6'4" Khadija Faye from Texas Tech. She burned Texas last year when Tech played Texas in Austin. I am confident Texas will be a factor in conference play and, once again, be tournament ready in late March. I don't know how good the team will look in...

WNBA considering expanding by 2 teams

The weak benches are related to the pay structure. Teams have to pay their best players and then fill out the roster with the best players that fit under the salary cap, not the best remaining players.

Texas has three star quality players with good chemistry next season in Matharu, A Moore, and Harmon. Can’t mess with that. Anyone who comes on board has to be a good chemistry fit.

Yes, as Southie had said a number of times, the body of work was not that great. But Baylor did win Big 12 regular season. And the Big 12 was/is good this season.

First year that the women are officially part of "March Madness." Fitting that there are more big early upsets? Look at the upsets on the men's side. Two #1 seeds (Baylor/Arizona) don't make it out of the first weekend?

    LSU basketball 2022, Part II

Mulkey made similar statements when she was at Baylor. When her team won the regular season conference championship and was set for a high tournament seeding, she resented having to play in the conference tournament: nothing to gain, plenty to lose.
