As an outsider who adopted Uconn Football Fandom through a connection to a former player, I'm curious how the truly devoted of this fan base view the potential of the program going forward?

Without knowing who the next coach will be, Do you believe that there is a ceiling on success, and if so what would be viewed as acceptable by you? We all want to go undefeated every year and win the National Title, but the actual expectations at Indiana are greatly different than at Alabama. What are yours?

I don't see why we can't be one of the more dominant programs in the AAC or G5, winning 7-9 games a year and going bowling consistently. It's more or less what we were in the Big East so it's theoretically possible. I don't think ECU and Navy (maybe Houston) have such inherent advantages over us.

We should be competing for a division title every year, conference title most years, winning conference titles every four year cycle, and snagging the BCS bid every decade or so when things align right.

For 2017, I hope upon hope that the team was held back by BD's stupidity and lack of meaningful preparation. That there is some rising talent and getting to a bowl game isn't a pipe dream.

In 2018, I default back to the standard expectations depending on 2017, a bowl game might be enough.

Really, I just want noticable progress toward those expectations and to win some meaningful games.

UConn should compete for the American title every season. Hopefully sneak into the G5 Access Bowl on occassion.

I think Cincinnati has sustained success (outside of this last season) and while they have recruiting territory advantages, I think we should strive to win as much as them.

2017 will be tough but i think RE2.0 will have us within shouting of a bowl. 5-7 or 6-6
Same for 2018
2019, definitely a bowl.

In a typical (most) season UConn will win 4 to 5 games. In a good season (every 10 years or so) they will win 6 to 7 games. Occasionally (every 15 or 20 years) they will have a really really good season and win 8 to 9 games. That is where I see UConn ceiling as a football program.

Within the next 4 years, if all goes well... we use O, D, and ST, get our discipline back in live games, one of those seasons could be a 10 win season.. In this conference, I feel it's possible... Edsall has better tools to work with than last time around....

in my world ... we talk comparables (or peer Programs)

Why can't UConn regularly be better than Temple? They have had a nice run; but we should kick their butt recruiting (housing and food on N Broad Street? Cmon). We should be - eventually - be better than Navy. In our market, we can regularly be better than BC and Syracuse.

That, IMHO, gets into the top 40 ... and maybe better.

Stick to basketball. Better yet stop rooting for the basketball. If you don't support all sports here we don't want you. Bye.

Agreed. Its time to move above Temple, Navy, UCF, USF, ECU and Cincy. Particularly if Cincy trips and falls for a period of years here and Temple stumbles under the new coach, there should be a window.

I have gone to a minimum of 4 football games a year since they moved into the Rent and I will continue to go to football games (and basketball games and hockey games). I don't have any problem with UConn football winining 5-6 games a year. I just have reasonable expectations. Name 1 football team in the North East that is any good and who realistically has any chance of being really good. No talent in north east!!!!

Unless Edsall some somehow figured out how to coach against spread, up tempo, option and dual threat qbs, I don't see him being anything better than consistently 6 or 7 wins.

That being said, I'm basing this solely off what he did a the Big East which was a worse football conference when he left than the AAC. If he hits a home run with an OC he can consistently be at 9 wins.

You just said our good season will be 6-7 wins, even though Edsall avg. 8.25 his last 4 seasons in a better conference. You are clearly looking to agitate or just dumb.

UConn was in the Big East (a power conference at the time). In case you missed it, UConn is now in a mid-major (read that as lower tier) conference. Recruiting will be a whole lot harder now for Mr. Edsall when all teams around us are in the P5. The northeast is not a hot bed for football talent. The other schools in the American have much better recruiting grounds to scour for talent. Also, didn't someone pose a question as to what we think UConn's football ceiling will be???? This happens to be my opinion whether you like it or not. You have your opinion I have mine, whats the problem? I will still be going to the games win or lose.

Playing in a weaker conference also means playing an easier schedule. If anything the ceiling is 10 wins, not 6.

This AD and president will work with Randy on getting his kids in.. Remember he at one point had the highest graduation rate of any D1 school at 90%. He doesn't try and beat the system, he wants to and make sure his kids get the grades and graduate. Did he leave on the wrong note, DEFINITELY.. I do believe we all deserve a second chance and I am willing to give it to him. I am GLAD he is back!!

The recruiting classes from BE days to AAC aren't that much different, if at all. The other teams in any conference we play in have a leg up, that's nothing new, same thing happened in Big East. Those are the cards we were dealt now and were dealt then. The only thing that has change is we play in a semi weaker conference, which makes it odd you think we'll have less success even though the parameters are virtually the same but the opponents are worse.

Sounds like 4 too many. Did you go to the Pitt or WV games with 40K screaming fans? Go to ND to watch us beat them? That's what is possible. Look at Edsall's record in his last 4 years here.
