Terrible loss but if we beat Santa Clara we'll be in good shale heading into BYU. Our pitching needs to be a lot better, and the offense is more competent than I thought it would be.

Part of the pitching problem should be alleviated by the return of Tim Cate, something that hopefully will happen against BYU. Remember, Cate only went 3.2 innings in his injury shortened Texas start, and his replacements Nepiarsky and Poulin each only pitched about 3 less than stellar innings in their Friday starts. Cate usually goes 7 or 8 innings of high quality pitching in his typical starts. That ends up being a lot of innings that have had to be replaced by other pitchers, and that ends up affecting the work of the bullpen over an entire weekend series.

The Santa Clara baseball website is listing Andrew Zapata as the probable starting pitcher for UConn tomorrow night.

Hopefully offense puts up some large numbers where pitching can be aggressive and not go through too many folks out of pen.

Doug Domnarski hasn't appeared in a game since his two short Sunday starts. Last season he was a rather valuable member of the bullpen. This is shear speculation, but perhaps the coaching staff is looking toward moving him back to the pen, but first maybe they want to see somebody (Zapata, Nepiarsky, whoever) give five decent innings as a middle of the week starter before committing to that decision. Meanwhile, at least for today Andrew Zapata emerges from seclusion.
