UCF: Scherm's CG Leads to Win on Friday Night

>>Schuermann was electric all night, throwing 72 of his 103 pitches for strikes. He scattered four hits and issued just one free pass, a walk to leadoff the ninth. The graduate transfer struck out four in his first complete game as a Knight. It marked the third complete game of his career and the first since May 12, 2018, against East Tennessee State University during his time at Furman.<<

From D1Baseball’s this weekend’s “Under the Radar Series to Watch”:

>Connecticut at UCF: After getting swept at East Carolina last weekend, the Knights need to take care of business this weekend at home against the Huskies. While the Knights are sitting at 32 in the RPI, the resume isn’t necessarily loud with series losses to Auburn, Penn State and now East Carolina. UCF has been banged up, but there’s enough in the tank to take this series. The Huskies played well at Houston last weekend with lefthander Mason Feole returning to form and Michael Woodworth/Anthony Prato and John Toppa doing some good things offensively. This is an important series as both teams look to jockey for position in the American.<<

D1 Baseball reporter seems to think that UCF is a "better team". The Huskies played well last weekend. UCF but there is enough in the tank to take this series. Let's sweep them and show D1 Baseball why we should be ranked

Funny thing. 7 out of 8 staffers from D1 Baseball, including Kendall Rogers who wrote the above piece, picked UConn to win this series. Saying "having enough in the tank to take this series" apparently says they have a decent chance to take the series, but it doesn't necessarily favor them to win it. Of course, it would help the UConn case if they actually win the last two games of the series.

I've been periodically checking the D1 Baseball picks. All 8 of their staffers picked Louisville and Houston over UConn in those particular series. Got to hope their being wrong in picking UConn games does not continue.

I want Baby Wink, damn it!

He's got the hip flexor, I don't think he made the trip. Ben Maycock who doesn't always travel, made this trip (pinch ran last night), and I'm guessing he took Winkel's place.

I know. I just miss his bat and ability to throw out runners. :(

It's getting to be a David Langer weekend at 3B. Nucerino gets the start in right field, which gets better defense out there with with the pitch to contact Kersten on the mound.

Defensively he is probably their best option. Right now his offense isn't any better than either Gozzo or Phillips. However, you never know when a young talent like Winkel is going to make the big leap forward with the bat. So yes, definitely would like to see him out there when he gets healthy.

Bottom 1st, 1-2-3 inning for Kersten.

Dinner time. Let's see if I can avoid the dirty looks!

FYI, I'm giving you dirty looks right now for putting dinner before UConn Baseball!

Bottom 2nd, 1-2-3 inning for Kersten. Langer has had a couple of nice plays at 3B so far.
