The undefeated 9-0 UConn Husky field hockey team is (unsurprisingly) ranked No. 1 in the polls. The Huskies are going for their third consecutive National Championship title this fall and fifth overall. Another dynasty in Storrs!

Incidentally, the women's soccer team is 4-0 and ranked No. 25.

The NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup is an award given annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to colleges and universities in the United States with the most success in collegiate athletics. Points for the NACDA Directors' Cup are based on order of finish in various National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sponsored championships or, in each case of Division I Football, media-based polls. The award originated in 1993, and was presented to NCAA Division I schools only. In 1995 it was extended to Division II, Division III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schools as well, each division receiving its own award. The University of North Carolina won the award in its inaugural year, and since then Stanford University has won the Division I award for twenty-one straight years. How we are passed over whenever conference realignment comes up is beyond me. I'm also sick of hearing that it's because of TV markets. A good chunk of our fan base resides in the biggest and 7th biggest TV markets in the country. UConn itself is located in the 30th biggest TV market. That means UConn offers up a TV market that is better and bigger than most P5 teams.

Yes but Penn State is already in a Power 5 Conference. UCONN is trying to get into one. Big 10 is not going to throw out PSU for losing to Temple for the first time in 41 Years.

UConn was coming off 4 straight bowls including the Fiesta Bowl and still got passed over.

There is something else going on here and it stinks IMO.

And it's absurd to judge our football program based only on how it is right now. We had a coaching change that didn't work out. Obviously that has a negative effect. But every sport UConn commits to is a success. And that included football and if Diaco is the right man they will start to be respectable again.

What information have you got that leads you to that conclusion? I thought that we were a good candidate for the ACC three years ago, but that didn't happen. The Big 10 seems like a stretch to me. What do you know?

We have both a Football board and a Conference Realignment Board here on the Boneyard. I just thought a UConn team going for a three-peat deserved its own thread.
