Two out, one in. Kierra Fletcher 5-foot-9 guard from Georgia Tech was the Yellow Jackets’ second-leading scorer in the 2020-21 season transferred to SC the day after the championship game. Yesterday two transferred out. Two South Carolina reserves in guards Eniya Russell and Elysa Wesolek have entered their names in the transfer portal Friday, less than a week after the Gamecocks celebrated a national championship. Russell is a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Baltimore who was a McDonald's All-American. But Russell never started a game in 49 appearances the past two years, largely coming in late when games were decided. Well over 1000 women's bball players in the transfer portal now.

There is a transfer thread on the General WBB board but since people want to post them here, too, I’m merging all the threads into one Transfer thread. With 1,000 people in the portal, we don’t need 1,000 threads

Who are the top 5 that you believe UCONN should consider.

Sorry I was being obtuse. This was specifically about the current national champion South Carolina already using the portal to get better as well as loosing some players who don't play to make room for others and while I didn't say it how UConn needs to keep pace otherwise SC will dominate again. This is the new model unfortunately and while UConn will surely try and keep pace it's going to be hard.

It was roughly a couple of weeks ago when Dawn said some of her team would be hitting the Portal. For a couple of decades we have had some prominent coaches who have little or no compunction at showing members of their teams the exit.

SC = 2.
prior to this year, it was Wilson as a junior, and SC did not repeat

Boston is a junior.

These businesses (colleges) aren't paying these prominent coaches millions of dollars a year to be mediocre and go .500. It's roster maintenance. If it gets to where you have more non-producers than producers you're out looking for another high paying job.

Not just nonproducers, just trading up. It is a new world. Doesn't mean we have to like it. Now long ago I gave up the Yankees when they became a revolving door. They got so good at the revolving part that they forgot how to play quality baseball.

I hate to post this, but SoCar with Wilson did not have the depth that this team does. Sad but true.
Oh, and 99% of WBB fans know that the only reason SoCar won is because they played Miss State in the NC game instead of...:)

How common is it for a new coach coming in to a program to suggest to one or more players that they would be better served by transferring to another program? Thereby purging the team of players they don't like or don’t feel can help the team win next season, and also opening up much needed scholarships for incoming transfers?

There are a number of options/views for that thought (You ARE a thinking person). A. Dump those that can't or wont play your style and those who conflict in personalities. B. Don't lose anyone until you fully understand every one. A smart coach doesn't want to dump a diamond and pick up a carrot replacement.
However, I'm sure you are right with many of the incoming coaches without open scholarships. I'd do that.

I have said this often: Geno is a trend setter, not a trend follower. What has worked wonderfully for him, he keeps. What doesn't he loses. He knows, as Tony C and JoePh know: True fans love this team because of the way they play, the way they present themselves, the traditions of decorum, dress, tats, carry themselves, speak to the public. Uconn is more of a CULTURE than just a team. When they run onto the floor to begin a game--you know they are a Classy team. True fans don't need an NC (they are great) an FF, Elite 8, but we accept them when we get them.
I've been a happy camper for the last 4 years because theyve been different. The European kids saved a season and I enjoyed them all. Dorka, a rare transfer saved our day. Paige and Fudd, a dynamic duo. Winner by just being themselves and friends. Caroline, she played like a senior, Edwards and Muhl two strong determined women. They just warm my soul. I can't think of another group of kids that gave more energy, more of themselves, than this group. We'd like an NC. But I wear my Uconn T's or Sweats with as much pride now as when Stewie won Nc's. You can bet Tony C isn't complaining!!

Looks like Jana Van Gytenbeek from Stanford is in the portal. Not sure why she didn’t get more playing time? She had six three pointers against Arizona! Would love to see her playing for UConn.

It's kind of strange because Van Gytenbeek helped recruit so many of her Colorado based teammates to come to Stanford. She was very gungho. Stanford had a ton of depth at guard with a lot of experience. If she waited she would probably get more PT next year. Considering Stanford's situation going into next year, it would seem likely that they will pick up at least one more guard and possibly 2. Possibly Myers would be a great fit. It would seem to be made to order for her.

Gytenbeek only made one basket last year which was not a 3 pointer. 1 for 7. She seems to be a 3 point specialist in that offense but if you look at all their guards they are largely a 3 point shooting group of guards or non shooting group of guards except for Haley and Lexi.

I would think Gytenbeek is looking for a team where she would get more PT and if Stanford's situation next year isn't enough then I don't see Uconn being any better for her. It's crazy when such top talent can't even get PT. Colorado Gatorade player of the year.

I didn’t know her history. That’s rough. However I still would love to see her transfer to UConn versus Maryland or Notre Dame. I’m sure Geno could find good minutes for her and she could win another championship at a second school. How many basketball players can say that? As a Gatorade player of the year, she must have other talents other than the three?

One can never be “sure” of what Geno could do.

For sure! Just getting a bit nervous here. So many top teams picking up quality talent in the portal. With all the injuries this past year, we could use at least another guard. I believe Geno mentioned that. Most recent I just saw Priscilla Williams (Syracuse) is transferring to USF. Indiana, Maryland, UCLA, and several others loading up.

Why do you keep making stuff up? Van Gytenbeek didn’t help recruit anybody. She had only two teammates from Colorado, Belibi and Prechtel. And they were both juniors this year which means they were both at Stanford before she ever got there.
