I'm surprised that the Sun still had the rights to Ashja. I know she has had her problems with injuries. A ruptured tendon 2 years ago and then a host of all kinds of injuries. I would normally say that's risky for the Lynx but all they give up is a 2 in the draft. She probably would fit better with a loaded team and be able to play less minutes. I can't believe she's 34 now. I think she opted to play in Israel this year in a lesser league then the previous ones she played in. Hope she stays healthy. Glad that the Lynx are giving her a chance.

Perhaps they prefer living their summers in NYC, Phoenix, Seattle, Atlanta et al .... as opposed to Norwich ?

Holy cow! If she's healthy and can play her way back into any kind of game shape, even by midseason, this would be a GREAT addition for Minny. I can see her spelling Brunson for awhile and adding minutes gradually.

Maya must be tickled pink! Yet another Olympian on the roster, this one adding grit and power in the lane!

Great time to be a Lynx fan :)

Edit: I see McCarville is not suiting up this year, so Asjha will take her spot. They also have Amber Harris back, who (though not a center at all) can add some needed length. And we'll see how Dantas has progressed as well.

Eastern CT may be culturally dull but many NYer's pay thousands of dollars/week to lease modest houses on the CT & RI shore, maybe 20 miles from Mohegan Sun arena. While you're at it try living in Phoenix in the summer. Temps average over 100F and people run from air conditioned cars to air conditioned homes and businesses.

When I was 22 I would have loved to be able to afford to live there. But what does age that have to do with enjoying swimming, sailing, some of the best seafood in the country and a nice seas breeze as you sit on your deck? Remember, these players spend half their summer on the road.

I grew up in Norwich. I have no illusions about it being god's country. But the climate in the summer is better than many other WNBA cities. Players want to go elsewhere for greater opportunities for outside income, or to be closer to family/friends/significant others. Not because of the climate.

I see no mention of this being a conditional trade. Can our beloved alumna still contribute?

I never mentioned anything about climate.

Seattle, LA, Phoenix, San Antonio, Tulsa, Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Atlanta, DC, NYC, and eastern CT. It would seem to me that at least 9 of those places would be more appealing than the Greater Uncasville Metro for most of the young single professional athletes of the WNBA.

Your post: But how many of those are 22-35 y/o single women ? Are you saying that the CT shoreline is unattractive to 22-35 YO's? IMO the New England coast in the summer is very attractive to that age group. Please explain your reasoning for that comment?

If Asjha is healthy and in shape, she can help the Lynx. I'm sure she'll be motivated.

As I watch the evening news of the daily happenings and weather reports around our great country, I feel quite content living in the good old "dullsville" of SE Connecticut. Even better, as I make my daily drive to lovely downtown Niantic, I thread my way through the public works of the three year plan to make it even more beautiful. Small wonder Geno bought his summer home here. (on edit) I believe several Sun players used to live in condos within walking distance from my house .... and also from the beach.

Wow Ashja must have been brain dead for staying with this team for all those years! Probably should have sought out a Dukie for advice. Why would anyone want to live in close proximity of the most diverse area of the country? She probably suffered a tranquil life in the country side never realizing both Boston and NY are only 90 miles in either direction. That and both casinos who get the same entertainment coming through next door.
One can only hope she can recover her years lost in this Godforsaken location. ;)

I think a lot of people are missing something here. I think Ashja and any other former UCONN player would LOVE to play for the SUN. Just not enough to get past the terrible coaching of Donovan.

It is not just UCONN players that do not want to play here. Whalen, Douglas and Taj are just a few others that wanted out. Whatever the reason, if we can't keep players we are in trouble.

Players even wanted to leave when Mike was the coach, so it isn't all about Donovan. Something is wrong here and management must wonder the same as we do.

Maybe teams should take a stronger stance and not just move players when the player asks. The problem is the players in this league have all the leverage because this is not their main source of income.

I know this is a UConn message board but there are also Sun and WNBA supporters that are UConn season ticket holders. I'm assuming the people that complain that Kelly Farris is not on the starting lineup have never been to a Sun game. What difference does it make if Renee, Kalana and Tina left. Tina is in a great position now. Renee was benched by Thibault as was Kalana Greene as she is in Washington. This is a not college sports. Our Sun fans were screaming for Thibault to move on because he could never win the big one as is the case now in Washington. I'm not thrilled about Donovan but I do love her statements about the Liberty and Isiah Thomas. If the Sun turn into the DUKE Sun and we win I'm thrilled. If Kelly Faris doesn't make it into the WNBA it is what it is. The Sun never should have drafted Kelly in the first place. They need to forget that they are in UConn territory and draft the best players. There were five terrific players that should have been drafted before her and the Sun took Kelly because she was from UConn.

The questions is still why do so many players want to play elsewhere and request a trade or refuse to play here.

Asjha grew up in Piscataway, a lot less than 90 miles from NYC. We must give her presumed credit for urbanity.

So...was Asija Jones the last former UCONN player on the Mohegan Sun's roster? Anyone know about Kelly Faris? It really seems like Ann Donovan is biased against UCONN players. Not sure why. Having them on her team would ensure ticket sales. We already know that they have great habits & work ethics. Any speculation as to what her problem might be with our girls?

No spitting match here wire but your sarcasm batteries were low on this one or I am not good at it. She spent a decade here and the location of the team has nothing to do with her moving on. Not trying to be arrogant but I gave her credit for realizing her urbanity as you call it. Presumed credit  wow.
I have credit but if it were only presumed, I really would not have it....Maybe something for trivia ....:D

So not necessarily directed at you, but this is the 3rd post today that is a duplicate of an earlier post. the other 2 were different topics posted twice, and now this one.

I probably should not respond but good Lord! This is ludicrous. ASJHA Jones was not coming back to the Sun for reasons discussed to death elsewhere. To use this trade as evidence that Coach D is biased against UConn players is nonsense. As for Kelly, today she is still on the Sun roster and I expect she will enter training camp on the bubble. I would love to see her improve and make the roster but, totally due to her performance at this level so far (NOT Coach D's supposed bias), that appears unlikely.
