Losing him to Pitt.......UConn is more a mid major than a P5.
Losing him to URI......UConn is no longer a destination job.

Either way, its a narrative that will kick us where it counts.

I think the second one hurts a lot more. JMO.

I think it's gonna be clear he just took the money if he goes to Pitt.

I think it's normal for a guy to go to the highest bidder.

I don't think it's normal to take less money, less assets and less prestige.

Remember in the various fire Ollie threads how many times it was stated that we could get top notch coaches from all over the country who would be falling all over themselves because "we're UConn!"? Good times.

I remember the first part for sure, the second one not so much. The vast majority of posters here acknowledged the struggles we would face but still felt we are a strong enough brand to grab a top notch coach like Hurley.

The conference is better than the American.

Agree with a lot of this, but this is a bad take.

Has it been better the last 4 years ('15-'18)? I don't think so, but you could make an argument. They have 1 extra tournament credit during the timeframe.

But we just added Wichita St. and both Memphis and UConn were down at the same time. If you had to bet on conference strength as measured by KenPom over next 5 years, I don't think many people would take the A10 over the American.

You guys are missing the obvious other possibility.

There is a job he wants that isn’t UConn or Pitt and isn’t open yet.

Just spitballin here but Turgeon could be out at Maryland next year.

Stay a year at URI show you gave them a chance and then the job you want is open and away you go.

Damn, I need to run a WebEx in 20 minutes. I'm going to have to close my browser...not sure how "Boneyard" would be interpreted by those who catch a glimpse of my screen.

OK, meeting over, what did I miss?

I'm not worried about the optics of losing out on Hurley - if we do. Just go after the next coach on your list. There are plenty of good coaches out there who would take what we are offering Hurley right now (and probably less than what we're offering him).

To me, if Hurley stays it's more his commitment to URI than not choosing us - and that's commendable

If he stays at URI he has an eye towards other jobs that may open in the next year or 2.

The money in that league is terrible. ($5M for the whole conference every year.)

Also, they aren't even close to the AAC in terms of basketball quality, let alone better.

And that's with Memphis, UConn, and Temple crapping the bed.

But includes yanking Wichita State from the MVC.

If we want to go off that chart no one can ever say anything bad about the Big East again.

And Hall opens up if Willard is Pitts guy

Louisville could set off a chain reaction too.

I was just up on Pitt Board. Seems most of the attention there has been focused on Miller since late afternoon yesterday

Which means they're getting Hurley.

Anyone trashing BE basketball is a dope.

But I don't get your point: of course it includes WSU. Why wouldn't it?

Or Kevin Willard gets a new job and Seton Hall opens up...

And really those numbers are horribly skewed downwards due to ECU/USF. If they just become below average rather than horrible, the league jumps the Pac-12
