For the B1G true believers:

"UConn, Cincinnati and South Florida appear to be the biggest losers in realignment," said Tim DeSchriver, an associate professor in the sports management program at the University of Delaware's Lerner College of Business and Economics. "These schools made substantial investments in their FBS programs over the last decade with the belief they would be competing in a BSC level conference. Obviously, realignment has put that strategy in question. However, this may change in the future if realignment is not over.
"If the Big 10, Big 12, or SEC raid the ACC to reach 16 teams, then I would expect the ACC to reach out to UConn to backfill the teams they have lost. However, I do not see any leagues except the ACC reaching out to UConn."

I could live with the new BE (as the ACC will be known).

Looks like the USS Connecticut will be making an advance against the University of Delaware.

couldnt disagree more. if tv revenue and cable subscriptions are what matter, uconn should be appealing to all 3 conferences. what i do appreciate is while other local journalists tend to promote their universities, the ct journalists seem to focus on why uconn has been left out and not why they should be invited in.(yeah right)

Looks like that's where we will end up eventually. Although, I would love to se the USS Connecticut sail into the Great Lakes of the Big Ten.

it amazes me the negativity of the Connecticut media. I am home in Philly visiting my folks for the holiday. In today's Inquirer there is an article titled "Checking the UConn Playbook" in a two page focus on Nova's FBS prospects. Talks about how we have made all the right moves and are just waiting for our invite to a "big boy" league and how the Fiesta Bowl finances screwed us a lot among a few other quick points. "There still is a very good chance UConn will fill one of the openings in the ACC if the ACC is raided by one of more of the other big-boy leagues." While the Inquirer is essentially saying the same thing as the Courant, the Philly media is overwhelmingly more positive.

The coverage from the CT media has been incredibly lazy. How about digging into why UConn has been snubbed from actual sources inside the ACC and B1G, instead of making empty statements that mimic the theories by the idiots (I mean that lovingly, of course) on this board. How about investigating the true value of the TV market we occupy vs. Georgia Tech, Virginia, or UNC? How about a full accounting of the erroneous assumptions out there about our APR, our BCS ticket sales, or our FB prowess versus some of the really crappy programs currently taking up space in the "power five."

What's good can say it's not his job, but guess what? They are valid news stories, and small time college programs doesn't need beat writers or a full time bloggers.

Spot on specialisthusky. It seems as though our CT media can't help but add little negative nuggets in their pieces that our fanbase eats right up. I enjoyed the "even though they were blown out" nugget when mentioning UConn was in the BCS. Instead of taking the tone that the Inquirer probably did (I haven't read the article), stating that UConn's rise has been impressive and that Nova should try to use UConn as their model, our media gives off an unimpressed tone from what was the watershed moment of our young D-1 football program. Including quotes like that from the bumblefuck from U of Delaware (and since when is this guy the "go-to" expert about conference realignment???) adds to the Negative Nancy persona that many UConn fans seem to willingly adopt for themselves. And why? UConn has a HUGE TV market footprint, a fast growing "public ivy" academic perception, several national championship athletic programs, and the fastest growing D1 football program in history. What am I missing?? Why should I think UConn stinks and our best hope for realignment is when a depleted ACC finally relents and add poor ol' UConn??? I just don't understand or agree with that sentiment whatsoever.

I totally agree SubbaBub - there is a story to be written here but it will take some work. No one is willing to do that. I think that story would have been written in days gone by but journalists now don't usually write that stuff. Newspapers are dying and will eventually be gone because of the internet and social media. But that is one place I think newspapers can still have a voice. The investigative stories that are printed over the course of a week. A journalist could really make a name for himself around here doing something like that. There is so much material already out there and tons more they could dig up.

What's good isn't a UConn fan, he's a Cuse fan. His #1 priority is keeping his journalist integrity by writing objective pieces, not "yay rah rah" pieces pumping UConn. And that's fine. But UConn desperately needs an ally in the CT media, willing to call out the BS of their fellow media members from ESPiN and others and take a pro-UConn approach for once. Not this same ol' recycled Stop that UConn "never had a chance".

UConn does have a lot going for it as you point out. The school and the local media need to keep that drumbeat going. Our biggest problem is also one of greatest strengths...location. Because we are tucked away in New England there is a feeling we will always be there for someone down the road. Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville, Rutgers and WVU are more centrally located to B1G, B12 and ACC. We are a natural fit for the ACC and a bit of a stretch for B1G.

I think the next key in CR is the MD exit fee. If that gets cut in half or less, that will open the door for FSU and others to bolt. That is when we will get the invite. My guess is it will happen within a year and we will be playing in the ACC in 2014.

Warde is nowhere near that skinny nor does he have exceptionally baggy eyes. Although after a few months in this job, he might!

I'm not asking him to be rah-rah. It's his job, (the others as well, but this is mainly a FB story) to deliever relevant news about the program to readers. There isn't a bigger story right now that realignment and the sinkhole that is developing. If the ACC sources blame Hathaway, Herbst, Calhoun, Blumenthal, Jonathan then report it. If we are all delusional about our TV numbers, report it. If a couple of old guys in Colonel Sanders suits are living in fear of our olde thyme yankee can do spirit then report that. If Jurich is providing hookers and blow to the same bolo tie wearing dudes then report that.

No one is asking any of them to make stuff up, that what we are complaining about. I don't care where they went to school or which teams underoos they wear on Saturday. It's their job. As a reader and fan, I want some real freaking news. Go get it.

I imagine they will be at Electric Blue at some point.
Still remember "Bustee Heart" coming to a UConn game at Memorial to promote whatever Club she was dancing at that night in Hartford (I don't think the Blue had opened yet). It was parents weekend too.

Negative? Are you serious? Why just the other day I heard one of the media defend UConn without hesitation. Somebody was attacking Susan Herbst. Said she ate on toast. The journalist was outraged. Said he knew for a fact that rumor was a malicious lie. "Susan," he corrected, "doesn't even like toast."

Don't worry, the bitter remnants of what's left of the Horde have our backs.

Ran into her at Sal's Pizza in New Haven. She offered to take a picture with me and my 3 yr old son. My wife didn't object. My son took one look at her and wanted nothing to do with it. Needless to say I over ruled his objection. Still have the picture of the three of us, my kid with a terrified look, her smiling and me with a eating grin!
