Only Uconn fans are delusional enough to believe this Parks and Rec garbage.

It's always fun when people who have no idea what they're talking about, but think they do, show up out of nowhere.

Jim Calhoun's relationship with the Baltimore parks & Rec goes back to the Reggie Lewis days. JC had given his time, spoken and run clinics down there in the past. This relationship did not just come out of nowhere when Rudy Gay showed up on the scene.

They still covering up child rape, money payouts to players, assault and battery on women, and failed drug tests up there in the central new york tundra?

Which AAU team? The one that was thrown together for one game so Rudy's camp could collect a paycheck...then subsequently disbanded?

Maybe KO should adopt similar tactics. You may beat Providence for a recruit.

You really are dumb. The AAU program: Cecil Kirk. The same group who put together the exhibition team.

KO is doing just fine, better 2014 class than SU already.

Funny....Ive never heard of him being so "charitable" before or since.

But similar to CR, the APR ban, etc, UCONNs problems are the fault of everyone but UCONN, right?
You know nothing about Calhoun, that much is obvious. Your ignorance doesn't seem to stop you from piping up and spouting what you wish were true about him and proving to all what an uninformed jacka$$ you are.

Well Calhoun isn't as charitable as Bernie Fine. Giving his wife to players to use who he molests little boys in the basement.

What problems? The whole thing was legal back then. No problems at all from Baltimore Parks & Rec. Q: was Boeheim doing the same as Gary Williams back then? Forking over F4 tix the to Pump Brothers and buying their "newsletter" for $5k a month?

There's a "throw a dart at the NCAA rule book" joke here somewhere, right?

False, the money went to the Baltimore Parks and Rec. it was set up so Cecil Kirk put together the team for the exhibition, but the money went mostly to Baltimore Parks and Rec, some went to the players on the exhibition team. False, this happened all the time. Almost every team in D1 played exhibitions set up in similar fashion. Sometimes the money went th AAUs, sometimes to guys like the Pumps and sometimes to places like parks and recs.

True it involved the same people that ran Rudy Gays team and True it was banned a year or so after.

Similar or different to the "uniformed jacka$$es" who are "piping up and spouting what they wish were true" about Syracuse and Bernie Fine?

Except that it is a FACT that JC payed thousand$$ of dollars to a hastily thrown together AAU team that HAPPENED to be sponsored by the same guy who sponsored Rudy Gays AAU team.

Interesting way to be charitable, that's for sure.

Hey if you want to make stuff up, I can too.

Bernie Fine is a disgrace and so is Boeheim.

The irony is that these clowns seem to think that the money their schools paid to Athlete's in Action or the Pumps or whoever else went to something other than lining someone's pockets.

It's almost cute.

As for the Syracuse fan here, he might well be reminded that not only did Syracuse take good care of their 'exhibition teams', but they straight out hired AAU influence and are currently in hot water for violating enough rules in the NCAA manual that you can apparently hit one just by throwing a dart.

Priceless...do you believe in the Easter Bunny too?

Don't get me wrong; according to the rules at the time it was shady; but not vs the rules. Uconn paid off the AAU squad for Gays services.

Show me where UCONN made a donation to that charity besides the 25k that time and ill shut up.

Who are you talking to? Freaking quote whoever you are responding to you idiot.

Btw what does a thread on a UConn board about SHU have to do with Cuse or PC?

UConn played exhibition teams almost every year. Look it up yourself. They were paid or donations were made.

What was Upstate AAU that Syracuse used to play in exhibition games? It was usually a team of several recent Syracuse alums and some other local riffraff on a barnstorming tour - a tour that brought them from the Carrier Dome to the Carrier Dome locker room.

Sadly I can see how uconn fans can't /won't grasp the difference between legit aau squads and the sad collection of fat mIddle school teachers uconn beat up on for the sake of a payday for Rudys AAU coach.

Regarding the last comment. ... given Connecticut's sad situation I can also understand your putting all your hopes and dreams in to throwaway quotes from anonymous sources. Legit journalism!
Your program has a lot going for it. How long do you think the incredible inferiority complex you have when it comes to UCONN basketball will last?

1. False. They didn't pay $25k.
2. False. They didn't pay Rudy Gay's AAU team.
3. True. They paid $22k.
4. True. They paid the City of Baltimore Parks & Rec. Association.
5. False. "Never happened before." Many teams all over America paid AAU teams many times--in this case, UConn did not. Here, I'll throw in a bonus for you. In 2003, UConn paid Brandon Bass's AAU team for an exhibition game while it was recruiting Brandon Bass. Brandon Bass verbaled to LSU. You never heard anyone moan and whine over this direct payment to Bass's AAU team. Guess why? No one wanted to throw light on a common practice, or pee off Brandon Bass's AAU coaches.

6. Why do you think it's OK for Gary Williams to pay the Pump Brothers and land Pump Brothers recruits, but it's wrong for UConn to pay the City of Baltimore to curry favor with Gay's AAU coach (a longtime Calhoun friend, Reggie Lewis's mentor prior to his Northeastern days) who was employed by the City of Baltimore and Parks & Rec.? Why? In one instance, the money goes to inner-city youth, in the other, it goes to line the pockets of the Pump Brothers.

Syracuse isn't under investigation?

Interesting.

There's zero difference between the Beltway Ballers and the exhibition teams that UConn, Syracuse and the rest of the planet played. The irony is that you think any of them were legit - if nothing else, at least the Cecil Kirk outfit was indeed a brick and mortar rec center. (Upstate AAU.....legit! lol.)

Laurie Fine told Davis that she knew all along that Bernie was molesting him in their basement nightly when he was between the ages of 12-14. She said this in a phone call. Whe Davis made those claims to Syracuse, the lawyers covered it up and told him to take a hike.

You're absolutely wrong on this. They paid the City of Baltimore's Parks and rec. Calhoun recruited Gay from the time he was a sophomore. Gary Williams jumped in the late summer before his Senior year.

Why was giving money to parks & Rec. shady but not giving money directly to AAU coaches? The AAU guys are still getting paid today. Legally. They're still selling their newsletters.

I see a lot of hypocrisy here.

Hey - we saw the way the system was set up and we played the game our way. We played Louisiana Futures when we wanted Brandon Bass, we played Canadian something or other when we wanted Denham Brown, we played Baltimore Ballerz when we wanted Rudy Gay. That was how we used our 'AAU' game, instead of paying the Pumps for access to their 15 or so top 100 Pump'n'Run kids.

But then again, Jay Wright would bring the NY Panthers team of Gary Charles riffraff down to Villanova, so he could get Jason Fraser and Curtis Sumpter. Al Skinner would play the BABC All-Stars. Minnesota, fresh off academic scandal under Clem Haskins, had their little feeder program they took care of with exhibition money. List goes on and on.

The legislation to ban the practice of paying AAU coaches for exhibitions was brought before the NCAA by Northwestern and the Big 10 Conference. Gary Williams whined about it, but he had lined the Pumps pockets plenty and had no moral ground to stand on.
