Impressive! Thanks for posting, SH.

Aside from her competitive fire, sheer athleticism, & strong two-way play, I love Ashlynn Shade's seasoned midrange & post-up game. Given analytics influence on the game of basketball, midrange scoring seems like a lost art. Having a guard be able to operate from the mid or low-post back-to-basket is a huge weapon uncommon to the college game. And her jump shot elevation is spectacular!

I am also relishing the apparent stylistic yin-yang of our 2023 incoming backcourt. Ashlynn's intensity should be balanced nicely by KK's seemingly relaxed nature & controlled ease of play. KK never seems to get sped up nor rattled while letting the game come to her. They both seem to possess advanced BBIQ as well.

The IHSAA Network color commentator compared Ashlynn Shade to Kelly Faris during the Indiana 4A State Final broadcast. High praise, indeed.

Ashlynn tied the state record for Championship Game points, & her postgame interview was selfless, humble, & team-oriented. Tremendous kid!

And while she displays an innate understanding of how team basketball functions, what stands out about Coppinger is her unrivaled pure power at point guard.

Lynden Christian girls basketball coach Brady Bomber said it's like watching "a running back" get loose on the hardwood.

"She is obviously skilled, but her ability to get by people with her strength, and rebound at both ends, make her so hard to deal with," Bomber said.

...

And Nooksack Valley girls coach Shane Wichers knows any deep tournament run will likely be spearheaded by Coppinger, who is averaging 21.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

"What makes her so unique - I've never had a player who could impact the game in every possible way," Wichers said.

Btw, Shade's Noblesville team blitzed Franklin defensively in the title game, just like they did to beat Ayanna Patterson's Homestead (twice). Their entire team returns to defend their state title next year.

Separately, Franklin featured 2 good seniors-- Ashlyn Traylor & Kuryn Brunson--both who have yet to commit to a college. The latter received the state's individual leadership award postgame, during which it was mentioned that she took a few AP classes, & her ensuing interview was impressive. The former was their best player in the game & clearly has D1-caliber talent to play somewhere.

Is it common for seniors with college ability to be undeclared so late in the process?

As far as Faris comparison, Faris was tremendous defender- hope Ashlynn is as good, sounds like she might be, a little smaller. But, big difference with offense- Ashlynn is much better, much more prolific and diverse, hope that continues in Storrs!

Agreed, Conndog. I think the announcer was comparing their competitive intensity & 200-foot game.

Would love to see full game video for both Blanca Thomas & Kate Koval.

Hoping for one of them in 2024!

Not at all. This being a UCONN board we have a tendency to live in the rarified air of tracking top 25-100 recruits and rarely look beyond that where the vast majority of DI recruits exists. I suspect that Ashlyn Traylor & Kuryn Brunson are very good basketball players and there about 250 division I coaches that would be glad to given then a scholarship even if they don't make up their minds until spring or even summer time. Sabrina Ionescu waited until July ? and just showed up at Oregon.

Totally can see why.

Right now, in 2022, I hope Kateryna (as she's known back home) Koval's family is safe, whether they're still in Ukraine or outside of it. God's speed.
