That is a chicken way to go through life. For his sake, I hope that isn't his reasoning.

What Tom said above this. If he teaches or gets the ad job then he's doing just fine.

Interesting he is leaving a hundred thousand dollar of year job for a high school job that pays what thirty thousand a year unless he is made AD as well.

Nope... Not even close. Here is a SCC look - maybe Conard is higher based on West Hartford BOE budget but can't imagine there is that big of a gap.

Top 5 coaching salaries

1. Tom Lennon Seymour football $9,919

2. Rob Marone Lyman Hall football and John Ferrazzi Sheehan football $9,551

3. Jeff Bevino Foran football and Mark Robinson Law football $9,244

4. Don Drust Cheshire football $9,083

5. Jim DiNello and Tom Lipka Lyman Hall basketball and Joe Gaetano and Mike Busillo Sheehan basketball $8,967

My guess there is a teaching/admin job attached.

If he is hired as a teacher, on top of coaching, he'll make close to the same money.
What planet are you living on? Assume he has no teaching experience then it's $40K to start. Coaching maybe $7K. The guy is a D1 coach.

My sources on pay was way off to say the least. He will take a hit financially but I don't that matters when it comes to quality of life he will have.

My school hired the football coach, and offered him a job as a teacher at the same time. He started at the top of the pay scale. Same thing at Longmeadow. It happens often.

Does "started at the top of the pay scale" = $92,000???

If not, it's a pay cut (which is fine, due to the aforementioned reasons in this thread). If yes, then your former school pays teachers better than UConn professors. My guess is that he is taking a large pay cut, but that he is fine with it...

Top of the pay scale is in the 70's in Mass. It's higher in Connecticut. Add $10k for coaching, and he'll do fine in a job with less stress and more job security. Assuming he was hired for more than just coaching.

I don't think anyone is arguing that he won't be fine. The average salary in CT will likely still land him around 60k + 10k coaching. That's still >30k of a salary hit. But it is a hit that he is going to take in order to probably do something that he loves. Mix in the fact that it sounds like his wife works there too, and they'll be more than fine...

Quite possibly, P asked him to find other work, gave him a year to find a job, with the notice his job would not be around past January 2014. It would be consistent with the way P gave GDL a chance to find a pro job while keeping him (at least) a year as a position coach.

This guy was the weakest member of the staff, well not counting GDL, but he at least knows the online. Dos was a bad receiver coach and was kept around because Daddy was a Ct icon. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
