I don't think travel/geography is that big of a deal but comparing the furthest travel in the big east with the closest travel in the B12 is disingenuous.
Huh? How is Texas, Oklahoma, close? Wha?

If the last couple of years have shown us anything is that the big east is big enough to survive whatever happens next in the world of college athletics. The league is in a better place now than it was in 2013.

What if the P5 splits from the NCAA? This is a distinct possibility when the fight for the NCAA Tourney money starts. The NCAA did not fair well in the fight for CFP money.

Which schools with those be again?
Rutgers took 9 years to get the full amount. Penn State got it in 5 years.

But specifically for the B12, UConn would be the ONLY school to join to receive close to a full payout in its first year.

The schools that recently joined got a half share for the first 2 or 3 years. A far cry from close to a full payout in their first year

Because UConn was better than all of those schools before those schools went P5...

Seriously, UConn was better than every school in basketball at the time each school was given their golden ticket, and would be by faaaaar the best basketball program to move up now.

UConn was better than or equal to a lot of those schools in football at the time they moved too.

The ACC and B1G just made dumb choices...
Penn State? UConn was more valuable than Penn State?

Fwiw - Last season West Virginia played 9 conference away games in the big 12, but looking at the schedule, only would have had to fly out from West Virginia six times as they had 3 instances of Sat/Mon games with travel partner schools. I'd suspect the big 12 would attempt to do the same with a possible future UConn schedule as well.

Well, DC = West Virginia.

But you're right. We lose 4 close games.

Surely those 4 close games are worth $40m a year, right?

To go to 4 crapholes in Texas? And WV is way further than DC both geographically and metaphysically.

and to @JMicks point about moving targets? Its 40 million now? Ive now heard 30,40,50, 60 and everything in between million. Its hilarious.

Whatever the dollar amount difference is, its going to be hard to turn down if an offer materialized. P5s are only going to pull further away. I know people like to say P2, but the reality is Yormark negotiated a better paying deal for his league AFTER it was known Texas and Oklahoma were leaving.

The Big East isn't going anywhere; besides, a number of confernces would not be a fit. Wha confernece is calling Marquette or Seton Hall?

Georgetown doesn't fit any conference model (30 sports, a third of its budget on men's basketball, vastly underspending in football)
True but the difference between the current big east media deal in nothing is only $4.5M.

Best numbers I have are $31 million for broadcast rights, plus an estimated $20 million to each school from the conference is share of CFP money. That's why you often see people saying 31 million or 50 million. No idea where the 40 or $60 million numbers come from, unless the $40 million figure is splitting the difference between the 30 and 50 million numbers.

You're welcome August!

"The annual average distribution comes out to $380 million when the new contract begins in 2025-26, per SBJ. That’s an average of $31.6 million for the conference’s 12 members, not including revenue that comes from the NCAA men's basketball tournament and the soon-to-be expanded College Football Playoff."

For everyone that wants to stay in the Big East, what would you do with the Football Team?

Do you not find it kind of pathetic to go onto other school’s boards on a Monday evening to go talk ? Like just in general. Doesn’t that seem like kind of a sad way for an adult man to spend his time?
I agree, it is very sad

You do exactly what they are doing. Put together a schedule that allows them to win a couple of games and make a bowl game. Allow them to build some momentum and actually become competitive against Power 5 teams instead of throwing them into the fire of the Big 12 and get destroyed week in and out. The Big 12 and Pac 12 are not really getting any better they are only weakening. The SEC and Big Ten are going to continue to take the best of those leagues and the ACC. We may get in to the Big 12 now but it is going to continually get weaker as the Power 2 get stronger. It's not worth it for short term money. Build thru a balanced schedule that will generate enthusiasm. It's not going to be fun getting blown out every week by teams half way across the country.

It's not hilarious that you don't know the facts of the situation.

$32m is the media rights. But the P5 conferences get the football revenue which adds another $15m per school. I subtracted the BE media rights from the total. The total B12 payout is $50m.

As for "Way further" than DC, it's a difference of 150 miles. When we're talking flights, this is a negligible difference.

You guys are desperate

Here's where I got it: I wrote $40 million MORE!! He left out the MORE when he quoted me.

So, you subtract the amount.

Metaphysically? Jesus. I mean, yeah, of course the travel is worse in the Big XII. Maybe you lose a little of that northeast recruiting identity.

But the money and national cachet more than makes up for it. We are a national program.

The big east will definitely be included. Why would the PAC 12 be included and not the big east?

Football.
If football is the only determinant then there won't be a P5 but a P2, so it would be a wash. The NCAA tournament won't cut off access, if anything it will expand.
