Yep. Plus there's this:

Last year Texas left millions offered by Under Amour on the table to sign with Nike and justified it by saying Texas "values relationships."

Texas lost its tertiary rival, Arkansas, in 1991 and its secondary rival, Texas A&M, in 2011.

Texas may be slow-rolling this thing but I don't think anybody in burnt orange is about to let Texas' primary rival, OU, run off mad.

LOL. Wouldn't it be at least as logical to conclude from your data that Texas doesn't give a crap about rivalries -- only itself?

Ha. I accidentally liked your quote while trying to hit reply. Not a bad post though. :)

Yes, one could say that. But this one's different.

The rivalry with Arkansas was big in the '60s but had waned considerably by the time Arkansas left. Besides, there are stories that Arkansas actually thought Texas would come with them.

And the rivalry with A&M was a no-win for Texas. Texas led the series 76-37-5. For the most part, A&M was like a cupcake. If Texas won, it was no big deal, but God forbid the grief and embarrassment whenever Texas lost.

In many ways, losing A&M was kind of like losing a pest.

But OU is a peer, an equal. Oftentimes a benchmark.

If Texas had to stop playing OU in football, basketball and baseball, there would be such a clamor that heads would roll.

I don't think any Texas AD, Chancellor or President wants to be the guy that let the Oklahoma rivalry get away.

It's really sad that UT didn't come around in time to save Mizzou and A&M. Imagine how strong the Big XII would be with the current lineup, plus Mizzou, A&M, Nebraska and Colorado. They should have invited Utah long ago. They clearly didn't see the changes coming.

Up until the moment they left, A&M (and Nebraska too) was (were) demanding unequal revenue sharing and thus perpetuating one of the very "reasons" they later cited.

After A&M finally left, all of the remaining Big 12 schools quickly gave into Missouri's every demand - equal revenue sharing and a grant of rights. Unfortunately, those "demands" were simply a bluff because they were already charting their exit.

If you have to endure a charley horse, this one's not all too bad. At least it says proper pro-UConn things!

Thank you for your kindness, but I'm just a delusional, defensive, self-serving, kool-aid drinking, excuse-making college football fan, like millions of others.

But when I look at who my school, Texas, would want as a new conference member, I always come back to UConn. Y'all have everything that moves the needle: great brand recognition; great history and reputation; great academics; being a state flagship university; providing an expanded market for the Big 12 footprint; etc.

We'll all get our butts kicked in basketball but it will be a small price to pay to get UConn on board.

Besides, I've been impressed with this board. You all seem to be intelligent individuals who take the high road. You're a great reflection upon the school you love.

This. I for one have always felt it would ultimately be The Boneyard that gets UConn in to the P5.

If the article carries any truth, Cincy may be in if the conference wants to throw WVA a lifeline. I think the question you guys need to address is who is your competition for the 12th spot?

Why anyone expected Jacobs to keep his New Year's resolution any more than most of us, I don't know.

This is what peoeple (whomever they are) mean when they say UConn football media coverage is lacking.

If Jacobs was serious about his resolution he'd be all over these Big12 meetings with timely placed tweets and articles.

But that takes actual effort. There isn't a single CT reporter that knows what tracking down a story involves. The Horde got fat on Calhoun and Auriemma spoon feeding them quotes. What is left of the Horde is now fat and lazy.

Getting number of tweets/emails about UConn and Big 12: Talked to the highest sources in Storrs other day. They remain in holding pattern.

It's up to Big 12. UConn believes it has learned the line between being letting its positives be known to Big 12 & publicly begging.

jacobscourant2:37pm via Twitter Web Client
This is UConn's pivate take: Power 5 conferences expand now for national not regional footprint. With NY, this can work to UConn advantage.

Just remember it's those Big 12 presidents doing the picking. They're the ones with the power.

Very measured responses from a school that has been burned multiple times in the CR process already.

Wouldn't expect anything less.

I always thought from a pure Longhorn perceptive Connecticut would be their first choice.
Acedemic's in Austin is important
State Flag ship positioned to put them on a bigger stage.
A long history of playing each other in BB
Finally residing in Austin ,named for a man with deep Connecticut Roots and he although not born there was sent back home to be educated .

Nary a mention... http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/05/03/expansion-rumblings-once-again-swirling-around-big-12/
>> Boise State, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis and UCF have all been mentioned as potential candidates if the Big 12 opts to expand. <<

From the news site that also brought us this:

No evidence UConn has been making Power Five conference pus

... and now this.

The Big 12 still does not need to expand, BUT IF IT DOES…

>>Expansion for the sake of expansion is dumb, and the Big 12 could very well be heading in that direction. Are there benefits to expansion? Absolutely. The revenue alone from a conference title game is not to be overlooked, but when you have to force Texas and Oklahoma to share a same size slice of the revenue pie as schools like Cincinnati or UCF or — gulp — UConn, are you really making the masses happy? That comes off looking more like college football socialism. Try selling that to the folks in the southwest.<<

>>Instead, we will consider the usual list of potential candidates; BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis…. you know what, just list everyone in the American Athletic Conference except for Temple, Tulsa, Tulane and East Carolina. Yes, there are those who actually believe Connecticut stands a puncher’s chance of being invited to the Big 12. I am not one of them.<<

Wonder who in CT tinkled on his Tastykake.??

Guy is such a joke.

He may be right and UConn may not get invited to the Big 12, but his clownshoes reporting of the process is journalistic malpractice.

I think what we all know now is expansion is probably going to happen as I saw today up to 15% increase in making CFP with Champ game at 12 teams as well as potential money of Big 12 title game & rumor TV partners would cover up to 12 schools. Plus 12 would help protect if there is future defections. I think its a matter of TV network or not. If a Network happens, UCONN has got to be in just based on the numbers. If no network, it becomes a stickier situation.

Seriously. That crosses the line well beyond sports opinion writing all the way to an anti-UConn hit piece. He twice goes out of his way to mock UConn; the other AAC schools get a mere "no thanks".

Better to be hated than ignored?
