I understand optimism...I understand pessimism ...but what happened to realism? In one of your earlier posts you used an analogy about a golfer with a 12 handicap and trying to improve. Then you state that you can bring in an expert who wants this player to correct his swing based on some kind of expectation of what a good swing looks like. However, before you correct, change anything...you need to evaluate what you have. Some of these players who graduated may not have the time to make or address the necessary changes. Also, sometimes, a player can have a weird swing or throw but for whatever reason it works for them. Diaco when recruiting talent needs to find the talent that matches his coaching style. He receives input from the trainers or at least I hope he does in evaluating their techniques. However, making radical changes with talent that was not chosen by him...is forcing a square peg into a round hole. A coach can assess the talent and change the strategy when it is necessary. Last year this was necessary! In my opinion this was an epic fail in coaching! Did the coach change up the plays being called in to reflect the ability of what was on the field.
Also, who is addressing the following issue in this way: He used the first part of the season as exhibition or pre-season games and he did this because he wanted to evaluate his team in real time settings. Ok - but and I would like to say that every coach but certainly most coaches are watching film and not two hours but 6-7 hours a day of film viewing. you watch your team, you watch the opposition you watch more of your team and more of the opposition. I am not implying he wasn't doing this but he certainly lacked the quickness to come to a game plan prior to game day. In what league would this be acceptable??? Answer the AAC??? hmmm, I truly hope not! But either way this is a problem.
All I heard was our players were not prepared during the off-season, our players don't have talent, our player our players our players suck! Ok, but when you can't beat SMU---sorry the players can be bad but come on man! So, the only reason I am giving Diaco a pass for last season - I wouldn't want to make a coaching change after only one year or even after year 2, but starting in year 3 - well based on last years performance I don't have high expectations. The proof is in the pudding! ...and that aint no jello pop we were eating last year! The one uptick - lets see what he does as he recruits the players he wants! This year, well if he wants to force his players to be something they are not capable of - expect the same thing. ...And for the record the whole team is his, but the talent he recruits must be coached differently than the players he was left with.
