Here is the list of persons of interest in this crime. Analyze it well and deduce who may be the friend of Geno trying to help him keep the fire under the team. :D
Please note many here would never see the top 25 in a life time. That and just how much the polls mean may have some lose with their vote. No biggie here the only vote that counts is the one just after the NC is played.

Somebody said it might be Boyle from UVA, cause she's upset Geno left. Not so...she's only in her 4th year at Virginia and she played at Duke.

Maybe one of the voters just checked a wrong box or something as simple as that.

Or it could be that, like the SEC announcers said, South Carolina showed they are back with their decisive 24-point at-home win against LSU, which is significantly better than their on-the-road 24-point win at LSU earlier in the season. Oh, wait ... never mind.
Some sort of "typo" was my first guess also. Either that or it's common knowledge that UConn's home court advantage is 30 points thus we lose by 5 in a neutral setting.

It was obviously Nan who cast that vote in an attempt to drive hits to the Boneyard. Hits = ad revenue.
Could be, because we know the depths she'll stoop to, even including links to remotely related teams like Hartford, Cinci, Temple, and Tufts in her news items just to beef up the list and prolong the time before some of us can actually get down to real work during the day.

But a more likely source using just a slight bit of crazy conspiracy theory is that the real culprit is USA Today. They knew that no one is going to give a rat's butt cheek about their poll since they already had UConn at number 1 unanimously last week. "So how can we make everybody pay attention and have that nasty but highly influential Boneyard site post a thread that gets an NCAA-Tournament-field of replies and more than 3000 hits and counting?"

Immediately they knew that for the good of the game and their Coach's poll that they had to make UConn clock in at 799 instead of a perfect 800. But who to do the dirty work? One thought was to find a coach without a shred of integrity who would sell their mother's soul for a Maya Moore autograph, and that wouldn't necessarily be too hard since two of the coaches are from Tennessee, one played for Tennessee, one coaches an SEC team, and one is the coach for Manhattan, which I know from occasional visits to the south is the seat of all iniquity.

But then an old Beach Boys song came on and they got the answer, "Help me, Rhonda." Knowing that she had a fantastic recruiting tool as the crazy SMU coach that was tough enough to twit that big bully Geno and his team, Rampole demoted UConn to 2nd on the ballot. When asked much later about her act she said, "Oh I saw that UConn 87 USC 62 score and thought they were playing Southern Cal. And anyway, Tiffany Mitchell is really no Cheryl Miller."

Maybe this explains it... from ESPN article on last night's game...

"They [UConn] are just 2-1 as the top team this season..."

Cannot handle the pressure of being #1... ;):D:p

Just sayin!
Doubt he really meant it, but okay, here's some Integrity. Not pretty, but as the line goes, "When something needs to be done, you do it." And if you just have to battle the heavy burdens of sanity, responsibility, and integrity, you do it.

As was noted above, the only SEC voter is kristy Curry from Alabama.

OK, but the other part of that was they are 335-15 as the #1. That's called "representing".

The problem with the 2-1 record as #1 is that UConn was #1 virtually all season long save a few weeks after the Stanford loss. Just because the voters stubbornly failed to acknowledge that fact doesn't make it less true. By the time Feb. 9 rolled around, the outcome was expected.

I really don't understand how anybody could not vote for UConn as number 1. Either they don't like UConn or they don't have any idea on whats been happening in WCBB. Its almost unfair that other teams have to play UConn. They are too good for WCBB. When UConn was winning games by double digits every game and having those win streaks that were off the charts fans were amazed how good they were. Well they just keep on getting better. Now its a close game when an opponent gets within 20 pts of UConn. Its a fluke when they lose. Fans say wow UConn only won by 18 whats wrong with them. Some fans were saying UConn beat SC by 25 because they shot the ball so well. Well they did and a lot of that had to do with SC not playing perimeter defense. Now UConn shot over 70% from 3. Lets say UConn shot less. Lets say they shot 4 of 11. Now lets also say on their misses UConn got 2 of those rebounds. That's still approx. a 19 pt win. Pretty impressive. Now some fans are saying if they meet again SC has learned a few things. Well so has UConn. You see not many teams shoot over 35% against UConn. SC shot 39%. So if UConn keeps them under 39% what do you think the result would be? You can cut it and dice it anyway you choose. No team this year will get within double digits of UConn all things being equal. A game like Stanford isn't happening at this point of the season. So for the person who voted against UConn you stand alone. It really doesn't hurt UConn theyre still number 1 and they will still win the NC again. So good luck to you and I hope you can use better judgement the next time you vote.
