The late period comment is definitely off, but both Josh and Polley were 3stars too. I think Josh may have gotten a 4star from one service towards the end but don't know for sure.

That's three of the five starters in 3 range. And first backup big.

Alright, but people can make their points without getting basic facts wrong.

Dan Hurley is an EXCELLENT in game coach. This team isn’t super talented. 2/3rds of our main pieces are 3-Star kids Ollie offered in the late periods of their senior years.

Tennessee went to the final four with all three star kids. The Celtics drafted one high in the first round and he plays quite a bit. Let's not confuse the very inaccurate rankings of a bunch of amateurs with actual talent.

Bouknight was underrated. Josh was underrated. Polley may have been underrated. Vital was probably underrated. Meanwhile, most of league only lands a 4 star top 100 kid once in awhile. We have more talent than anybody else in this league. We have under-performed our talent the last several years, even though it was less then.

Or you could consider the "untalented" zero star PG who went #2 in the draft last year. Murray State 2017 Basketball Commits

Been saying this since the start. Wholesale hockey shifts are annoying as hell.
I doubt he does this next Tuesday or starting in January.

By winning with good margins, he can play around more, move through his mistakes, and let the players do the same. This is a huge advantage we haven't seen in years.

That BS Experienced mid major talent teams beat better talent all the time.
In fact most of those teams don’t have any top 100 guys.
Gilbert,Wilson, Carlton, and Polley were all top 100 in at least some rankings.
Wilson probably was a four star

Vital, and Gilbert have played together for 4 years.
Carlton, Polley , Whaley and Wilson for 3
Adams for 2
Akok for 1.5
Plus a couple of talented younger guys.
In many. respects this is the most most talent / experience we’ve had since 2014. That team had good talent but incredible experience. Even as good as Bazz was he could sit and someone else could pick it up. This team has that kind of component.
2016 had a bunch of talent but little experience playing together and no PG until Adams emerged late.

Not a comment directed toward you, but seems like a good place to insert a memory from spring 2016.

When Whaley, a late-signed 'nobody' after the disaster of transfers and lost top recruit, was first announced in the newspaper, he was quoted as being super happy to be joining a storied program like UConn. It sounded so naive (maybe even ignorant), the kind of thing where someone would snarkily reply, "Kid, this is not your older brother's UConn." Thereafter, he was held up as an example of someone who UConn would never have even looked at in the past.

Fast forward to now, where he is acknowledged as a hard worker, has reshaped his body, added some offense, and fits into the full-rotation line-up. As competition improves, we'll see more, and make determinations, but it's a good time to appreciate what he's making of an opportunity that excited him when most of us here thought (more correctly than not) that the sky was falling.

In case you didn't notice, the record of those teams was 30-35. These are not teams/guys to be bragging about as far as talent goes. Winning was not either of these teams forte.

Carlton composite ranking was just under a 200. Polley composite ranking was above 200. Wilson was Top 100. Gilbert was obviously a 5star AA, but injuries have changed that ceiling.

Vital, and Gilbert have played together for 4 years.
Carlton, Polley , Whaley and Wilson for 3
Adams for 2
Akok for 1.5

But they weren't coached properly their first two years. And it's evidenced by guys being clueless at the end of those years.

For example, Vital's 2 years under Ollie led to a lot of bad habits. Two years under Hurley has.

Experience only matters if it's good experience.

I agree that he must say/do something effective during halftime
That being said:
1. I think DH needs to look at his substitution patterns because the team loses a lot of consistency at more than one point in a game - yes he needs to substitute but maybe needs to be more reactive to shifts in momentum, and
2, What do you want him to do with your chatroom whipping kid Mr. Gaffney?;)
I think that part of his reason for substituting is to keep his players fresh and to wear down the other side.

Thought Hurley substitution patterns have been well done. Has juggled 10 players in and out in an effective manner. Has used his younger players so as to blend them in and have them contribute to the teams improvement.
