The Top Dozen most watched NCAA womens’s basketball game ( correct me if I missed) were.

1. UCONN-UCLA (ABC) 839,000

2. SCar - NCState (ESPN) 506,000

3. SCar - UCONN (ESPN) 489,000

4. Stanford - Tenn (ESPN2) 365,000

5. Stanford -SCar (ESPN2) 314,000

6. Louisville -UCONN (ESPN) 281,000

7. Kentucky- Louisville (ESPN) 280,000

T Michigan v Louisville (ESPN) 280,000

9. Baylor - Michigan (ESPN) 242,000

10. Maryland - SCar (ESPN) 235,000

11. Texas - Tenn (ESPN) 232,000

12. UConn -GaTech (ESPN) 222,000

Notes:
  • Big 4 network coverage by ABC turns up big with number one viewed game
  • number 3 ranked game was in a bad (Monday noon) TV time slot.
  • UConn & SCar each involved in 4 of 12 top games
  • only UConn & SCar garnered 1 million+ eyeballs
  • UConn garnered the most eyeballs in these 12 games.
  • consistency of eyeballs on Louisville is amazing!

I think that it is impressive that woman’s basketball draws significant viewership across a broad range of teams. It’s a good thing to that ABC decided to broadcast its first woman’s basketball game.

For the sake of context, it should be noted that 22 men's college basketball games across the country have topped the five-million-viewer mark this season.

Would be interesting to see how these WCBB games' viewership figures compare with the top twelve for men. In soccer, the women have often outdrawn the men's national team in viewership. I think that's correct...

Since ABC had relative success I suspect they will consider adding more games in the future.
hopefully yes they realized that there is a significant audience they've been missing -- the #1 game got basically the same number of viewers as the #3 & #4 combined!

Comparing ESPN to ESPN2 isn't really a good comparison. I am still annoyed at how many hotels and other places only carry ESPN, but not ESPN2.

UConn, UCLA was on ABC which is in more homes than the ESPN stations. Everyone does not have cable so it should be expected that a non-cable network that is available to everyone who has a television, would have more viewers. At least that is what I think.

Oh yes, I think if #1 vs. #2 (SCar vs UConn) had been on ABC in the same time slot it as UCLA, it would have blown away the numbers of UConn vs. UCLA. Monday at noon was a horrible time slot that is #3 anyway.

Kind of surprised that our game against TN had higher ratings than the game against SCAR. I assume it must be a timeslot issue (different days of the week, time of day, and closer to Xmas week when folks check out), because #1 vs. #2 was definitely the more enticing of the two games!

Also, Tenn has more fans than SC.

Your game vs Tennessee was on a Saturday, while the game vs South Carolina was on the following Tuesday. Also, the CT-UCLA appears to be the only WBB game that was broadcast by one of the "Big Three" national networks, which would eclipse anything shown on one of the competing ESPN networks or Fox subsidiaries....

I think you'll find that the relative market sizes of UCLA ( greater LA area ) vs Uconn ( greater NYC area ) had a lot to do with these numbers also. When ABC is showing it in those 2 areas alone that's a lot of eyeballs. I know it was probably on ABC nationwide but for a game like that the numbers are skewed in the local areas. The same phenomena consistently puts up bigger numbers for the Super bowl when major markets are involved.

It was also on a Sunday afternoon, competing with NFL games. I think that was a big factor also.

Was there another choice or time slot? Or is this the time slot low revenue producers get?
