Playing a season in the spring makes no sense to me. What happens at the conclusion of the season? You head straight into summer conditioning/practices and then into a fall season with pretty much no break?
IMHO - a couple of points to make -
1. There is no "preseason." Teams scrimmage but it's basically a practice that tries to simulate game conditions. However coaches are not treating it like a game completely as they are trying to work on things within their own organization. It's not a game...
Behold, The Day's Top 10 state coaches’ poll: 1. Hand (7-0, 11 first-place votes); 2. St. Joseph (7-0, two first-place votes); 3. Darien (7-0); 4. Newtown (7-0); 5. Greenwich (6-1); 6. Bloomfield (7-0); 7. Southington (6-1); 8. Ansonia (7-0); 9. Sheehan (6-0); and, making its season debut, 10...
It will sort itself out. Sheehan gets North Haven and Cheshire. Cheshire gets Sheehan and Southington. If they respectively make the playoffs Sheehan could see Bloomfield & Ansonia. Cheshire could get Darien/Newtown/Greenwich. I'm sure the polls will reflect those results.

Courant doesn't really venture into Fairfield County so take it for what it's worth.
Gametime poll is the media poll. The Day is the coaches poll. The Courant "poll" I think is just one guy at the Courant. Gametime poll will probably be out on the Tuesday prior to the opening week.
Kids from the Pequot can play. In fact, UConn knows this. The Valley Regional QB whose team took down Ansonia wound up playing for the Huskies. So yeah I'd say he could have started for a team in the FCIAC/NVL/SWC or the CCC.

Immaculate had such bad numbers they were looking at folding football. They entered into a co-op program with Abbott Tech to keep football available. Moving them to Class L makes no sense.
I live in Brookfield. Was a heck of a storm. Lots of damage. Luckily the trees that fell near us narrowly avoided the house. On that note if anyone needs some firewood...
As a youth coach I had a game in Brooklyn once a few years back and we asked their coaches about this. The Brooklyn guys all basically said the same thing. They have a tough time talking any athletes into playing football. They're mostly just interested in hoops year round.
The district model has its advantages. I am just not sure if people want to shake it up that much. As far as the conference championship games are gone - I think conferences are still selecting their champions, just not through a championship game. Even when the games were there I think only...
I still maintain that if the CIAC limited league play to say 50-70% of the overall schedule then the point system currently in place would be more effective. Teams would have to freedom to schedule non league games and would be encouraged via the point system to find schools of the same size or...
Whether or not it was due to NC mistakes or poor play I felt they were fortunate to only be down 24-7 at the half. SJ had 2-3 more scoring opportunities/good field position in the first half. I'm glad it went like it did though. Entertaining game.
If the football team is winning and putting an exciting product on the field nobody will care about the surcharge. If it continues to be like last year, the complaining will never cease.
"Number of teams they beat that had a 10 win season (including post-season) 1"
If your opponent had a 10+ win season, that means nobody else was beating them very much either.
Lots of lopsided games in the 1/4's but looks like some great matchups in the semis.
CSC got exposed again. Until teams start playing more non-league games the CIAC point system will not work right. Expect this trend to continue.
I was at the Trinity game last night. I expected them to win...
I think the district model is great. It's a fair way to set things up. I came up with a very similar version of this idea around 2004 or so (posted on the messages board at birdseyesports.com - which is no longer active). The problem is it is unrealistic. It's like basically telling all the...
The state playoff rankings are set up to not penalize league play, as the leagues are set up with a mix of teams from different size divisions. But it does penalize you if you play a team outside your league that is a smaller size than your school. So to take Southington (Class LL) for example...
I don't have a problem with the call. He abandoned the kicking game because there is a problem with it (not the kicking but the blocking - what did they say, 3 blocked PAT's this year along with the blocked punt earlier in the game?). I think if people are upset it should be at why there is...
