Weekly Recap 11/22 – 11/29
|Weekly Recap
11/22 – vs. Indiana (59-58 W)
- This truly was the Shabazz show. The Huskies stayed in the game, and then eventually won it because Shabazz saved the day. He hit dagger after dagger after dagger throughout the closing minutes. Opposing PG Yogi Ferrell couldn’t keep up and either could Indiana. Freshman phenom Noah Vonleh was held in check by the Huskies, and consequentially missed the game winner shot at the buzzer. The Huskies escaped New York City with a 2k Sports Classic title and a perfect 6-0 record.
11/26 – vs. Loyola (MD) (76-66 W)
- It seems UConn has a problem closing out games. Yes, they win them. But they win them by the skin of their teeth. Sooner or later it will catch up to them. Tonight wasn’t the night thanks to DeAndre Daniels’ 21 points and 8 rebounds. Ryan Boatright also played well; having 13 points and 8 rebounds. Loyola is a decent team; they entered the game 4-0 and had their prolific scorer, Dylon Cormier, rip apart the Huskies for a game-high 23 points. UConn escaped by 10, but rebounding is still a major issue going forward. We might not see UConn completely control a game until the defense and rebounding improves.
Upcoming Games:
12/2 – vs. #15 Florida
12/6 – vs. Maine
The Huskies should have no trouble with Black Bears of Maine, but 15th ranked Florida could be a huge block in the road. Florida has an experienced front line led by senior Patric Young. If UConn can rebound, they should handle the Gators in Storrs.
Player of the Week:
Shabazz Napier (15.5ppg, 6rpg, 5apg)
