2015 Big Man Interested in UConn

Josh Sharma is a 7′ 215lbs. center that attends Northfield Mount Hermon High School in Massachusetts. He has had college coaches flocking to see him this winter. Among those coaches this year have been UConn assistant Glenn Miller and UConn head coach Kevin Ollie. Coach Ollie was in attendance to watch him play at this past years Hoop Hall Classic while Glenn Miller has been to other games and practices at Josh’s high school.

UConn is far from the only school recruiting him. He took an official visit to Wisconsin during the first week of this past January and they have been on him very hard ever since. In addition to Wisconsin, Sharma mentioned Vanderbilt and Illinois as the other schools that have been on him the longest. He then said that UConn isn’t too far behind them as in how long they’ve been recruiting him for. In addition to those four schools he is also talking with Creighton, Duke, Wake Forest, Gonzaga, and Stanford among others.

If UConn were to get Sharma they would be getting a player that has been rapidly improving. “I’m a 7ft athlete. I can run the floor, block shots, and finish around the rim. Right now I’m working on my post game, trying to improve that and a few other aspects of my game before this AAU season,” is what he had to say about his game. If he can show that he has developed a consistent post game this summer his recruitment will be taken to a much higher level.

As for UConn specifically in his recruitment he had this to say, “I talk to coach Miller the most, but I’ve also talked to coach Ollie too. From taking to them so far I like both of them and their recruiting styles.” He also mentioned some things that make UConn a school that perks his interest some, “They’ve always had a very strong basketball program and they have had a good history with the development of their players,” Sharma explained.

I also asked him if this years run changed anything about UConn in his mind. His response, “Not too much, I always knew they were really good. But yea I guess I was a little surprised on how well Ollie was able to do being fairly new to the head coaching job.” That seems to be the thing that has stood out to recruits the most. UConn is known for winning but Ollie was able to get UConn a championship in his first try. Recruits have taken notice of that.
