UConn To Play Idaho in NCAA Tournament First Round

The UConn women’s basketball team has drawn Idaho, the WAC Tournament champions, for its first round opponent. The Vandals (17-15) earned its bid to The Dance by upsetting the #1 and #2 seeds to clinch the title. Should the Huskies advance to the second round, it will play the winner of the #8 Vanderbilt – #9 St. Joseph’s matchup. Both rounds will be played in Storrs CT.

A possible third round game in Bridgeport CT would be against the winners of #5 Michigan State – #12 Marist and #4 Maryland-#13 Quinnipiac. Those teams will play their first two rounds in College Park MD. A Regional Final game would be played against the winner of the Queens and Newark sub-regionals. The teams in the lower half of UConn’s bracket are: #2 Kentucky, #3 North Carolina, # 6 Delaware, #10 St. John’s, #11 West Virginia, #14 Albany or #15 Navy. It should be noted that the #2 seed in the Bridgeport Regional bracket will be required to earn a trip to the Regionals on the #10 seed’s (St. John’s) home court.

If UConn is going to play Notre Dame for a fourth time this season, the matchup will take place in New Orleans in the NCAA Tournament semi-finals. The two #1 seeds on the opposite sides of the bracket are Baylor and Stanford.
