Two Huskies At NFL Combine

Former UConn defensive standouts Yawin Smallwood (Worcester, Mass.) and Shamar Stephen (Brookville, N.Y.) are among the scores of NFL prospects working out for scouts, coaches and executives from Feb. 22-25 at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The former Huskies will seek to improve their draft stock with interviews, individual workouts and position drills during their time in Indianpolis.

Smallwood started three years at linebacker for UConn, and led the Huskies in tackles each of the last two seasons. He was named First Team All-Conference in both 2012 and 2013 and was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award this season.

Stephen was consistent presence on the interior of UConn’s defensive line the last three seasons, starting every game in 2013 and earning Second Team All-American Atheltic Conference laurels. Following the season, the UConn players and coaching staff named him Team MVP.

The combine will continue over the next few days, and UConnHuskies.com will provide updates on Stephen and Smallwood throughout. Also be sure to follow @UConnFootball on twitter for more updates and links.
