Scholarship Grid + Chaos

It’s been a turbulent last few months of recruiting; one of the most chaotic and confusing periods of recent memory. In summary, I’m going to try my best to recap the recent happenings on the recruiting trail.

  • Daniel Hamilton still is committed. Great news. He should be a stellar player.
  • Rakim Lubin verbally committed to the Huskies on September 29th. This PF is said to be college-ready on a physical level. Desperately needed a big, and Lubin helped fill the void. Would be better if we could snag another 2014 PF/C.
  • Senior PF/C Tyler Olander got pulled over for DUI. Then it wasn’t a DUI. Then he got suspended. And now he is back. It seems he has some more important issues off the court, rather than on.
  • A package deal consisting of  PG JaQuan Lyle and superstar C Cliff Alexander was rumored. But, as usual, the deal fell apart a few Twitter posts afterwards. It was fun while it lasted. Haven’t heard from Lyle in a while. I’ll smile the day he takes his style to Storrs and files the NCAA Clearinghouse paperwork files.
  • Ray Kasongo was once an Oregon Duck. Then he changed his mind. Then he wanted to be a Husky. Then he was led away from Storrs. Kasongo, who is not currently being recruited, is not happy. Kasongo might have broken the record for most Boneyard posts. It was an impressive feat. For that, he will be remembered in Boneyard lore.
  • Melvin Swift, a 2014 PF/SF who has a knack for dunking, is taking an official visit on October 10 – 12. UConn is “supposedly” the leader. He may commit on his visit. With the way things are going, its a good chance he’ll commit and decommit before he leaves Storrs.
  • Sam Cassell Jr. verbally committed on October 9th. The son of long-time NBA veteran and now coach Sam Cassell, he bolsters the backcourt for when Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright depart.
  • Jordan Fuchs, a 2013 tight end/power forward walk-on, decommitted from the football team, citing the long overdue Paul Pasqualoni coaching change as a reason. He has opened up his recruitment and thus will not play basketball for the Huskies.
  • UConn’s top target since the summer, Devin Robinson, stated that UConn has stopped recruiting him. Puzzling; more details may come out. Robinson is a 5-star SF and is considered one of the better recruits in the 2014 class. Recently took a visit to Indiana. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

To help with this craziness, I have re-done the scholarship grid from last year. I updated it and took out some of the unnecessary stuff. I will post it on the Forum page that is linked to this article.

As always, ten toes in my fellow Huskies. The season is right around the corner, then the day shall be ours.
