Kentan Facey Ruled Eligible

For the first time in the recent history of UConn Men’s Basketball, the NCAA has made a decision that has benefitted UConn. Good news finally made its way to Storrs. The hot topic of this past summer involved Kentan Facey’s eligibility. The NCAA investigated the issue and on Friday deemed Facey eligible to play this season. In addition, the NCAA has granted the 6’9” big man a full four years of eligibility. Facey made his way to Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, NY from Jamaica a few years ago. Sources say the roof of the problem stemmed from Facey’s transfer credits. Circulating rumors labeled Facey multiple grades ahead, which could have cut down his college eligibility by up to two years. Thankfully, the NCAA Clearinghouse sorted these issues out and granted Facey his full four years.

The Huskies, with the clearing of Facey, look very promising as the season approaches. In addition to the reinstatement of senior forward Tyler Olander, freshman center Amida Brimah has been making great strides in practice. This gives the Huskies a deep frontcourt. Sophomore forward/center Phil Nolan is expected to start alongside potential 2014 lottery pick, DeAndre Daniels. With Olander, Brimah, Facey, and Leon Tolksdorf projected to come off the bench; hopefully the team’s rebounding troubles are soon gone. The Huskies were dangerous even without Kentan Facey. Now that the former ESPNU Top 100 recruit is eligible, UConn looks very dangerous as the final days of October wind down.
