Jumbo Watch: Carla Berube’s Team Improves to 18-0

With only six games remaining on their regular season schedule, the Tufts Jumbos remain undefeated and tied for the #4 ranking in the Division III poll. Unlike Division I where only two teams, UConn and Notre Dame, are undefeated, there are seven unbeaten programs in D3.

Of the six teams left on the Jumbos slate, two are ranked: #11 Williams College and #20 Bowdoin College. The Bowdoin game will be at Tufts, but the Jumbos will need to beat the Williams Purple Cows (no kidding) on the road, the fifth consecutive road game and the second in two days. Will Carla’s girls wear down? Scoring has been slowly but steadily declining but the Tufts defense has held opponents in check. Tufts is ranked #7 of 431 D3 teams in scoring defense. But it has averaged 62.8 points over the last five games while it scored an average 69.8 for the first five games of the season. Fortunately, Tufts has only one game in the next week before its stretch of three games in five days and the Jumbos will have a chance to catch its breath.
