Jessie Govan is a Top Target in 2015
|If UConn were to get Govan in 2015, it would help out tremendously. As everyone knows UConn lacks strength in their bigs right now. However, coach Ollie seems to be wanting to add some serious strength in the next couple of years. He has power forward Rakim Lubin committed who is a solid 6’8″ 245lbs. for 2014 and is going after Govan who would solidify the back line at the center position. Standing at 6’10” 265lbs. Govan would certainly be able to do it.
UConn has positioned themselves in a good spot with Govan, who describes himself as, “An all around fun person!” According to him, “UConn, Seton Hall, and Miami are recruiting me the hardest,” but he doesn’t have any favorites right now. UConn has already gotten him on campus for a visit, which occurred for First Night. Jessie really enjoyed his visit to Storrs saying, “It was very nice. I had a great time. The atmosphere was real nice, but I had a great talk with Coach Ollie after.” He also visited visited Seton Hall the day after his trip to UConn. As of now he has no other visits planned.
The list of schools going after the big center is long and elite, “UConn, Seton Hall, Louisville, Miami, Arizona, Cincinnati, Virginia, and more.” He wants his future college to have, “Comfortability and being able to play my game,” Govan explained. Wherever he goes that school will be getting a very good overall player.
Jessie has established himself as one of the top centers in the class of 2015. That is evident by the amount of schools after him and the fact that he was invited to attend the U.S.A. U16 National Team Tryouts. He describes himself as a player as, “Im mostly a back to the basket player, but I can step out and hit the jumper. I’m also a good low post defender.” This summer in the Nike EYBL he averaged 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block per game. This was against the top talent in the country and he was a junior to be instead of a senior to be like most of his main competition.
We also talked about just UConn. Govan has already been at UConn for a visit so he knows what UConn is like. That makes it easier for him to compare UConn to other schools he’s considering. He talked about what he likes about UConn, “Its just an all around good school, with a good history, and a lot of good players have came out of there.” He mentioned that he talks to, “Him [coach Ollie] or coach Miller almost twice a week.” As long as UConn keeps that up with him UConn should stay in great position to receive his verbal commitment.
With Jessie Govan already being zeroed in on by UConn’s coaching staff it will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes from here. If he were to come to UConn it could just be a stop on his way to a very good future in the NBA.
