Jalen Brunson Receives an Offer

Late Monday night, a rumor started going around that Jalen Brunson had received an offer from UConn. Brunson is a 6’1″ 195 lbs lefty point guard, a true point guard who can create for his teammates and has great vision. During a discuss among college coaches on which point guard they’d rather have, Brunson or Charles Matthews, one college coach told a recruiting expert, “I’ll take Brunson because true point guards are harder to come by.” Another coach chimed in, ““Give me the shooter and the decision-maker. Brunson is high-level in both areas”.

This is true. He’s a pass first player that will hit the shot if he finds himself open or if the team needs him to score. This past high school season he lead his Stevenson team to a second place finish in the state championships while averaging over 20 points per game during that season. This AAU season he’s playing for the Mac Irvin Fire in the EYBL.

Now, in case you’re wondering, he is the son of former NBA player Rick Brunson. That’s a nice person to be able to go to when you aren’t playing your best on the court. Jalen said in a recent article with Rivals that his dad “…doesn’t want me to get a big head,” and that, “He really keeps me down to earth and he does a really good job of helping me with all of the schools, how to talk to them.” He should listen to his father because his father’s been through it all.

As for Brunson’s recruiting, it is really picking up. He currently holds offers from Purdue, SMU, Illinois, DePaul, Xavier, Virginia, Tulsa, Creighton, and now UConn. UConn is his biggest offer so far. He list will grow a lot longer in the coming months as more coaches see him in the upcoming evaluation and live periods. He also has said that he has a tentative schedule for his decision. He wants to cut his list down by the end if his junior season and commit sometime before his senior high school season. By then he will have many more high-majors in his list.
