Huskies Fall to Memphis

@MattSchonvisky

UConn fell to Memphis 41-10 to drop to 2-9 on the season. Not much to say on this one so let’s go bullet point.

There were some goods things:

  • RB Ron Johnson is a load. He is quick for his size and finishes runs
  • QB Tim Boyle threw the first TD of his career
  • OL opened up a lot of holes for the running game
  • OL gave Boyle a lot of time to throw
  • RB Arkeel Newsome caught a screen pass and went 39 yards for a score
  • Cole Ormsby got a sack

There were also a lot of bad things:

  • Missed 31 yard FG by K Bobby Puyol from the right hash, the same hash that was practiced during the loss to BYU
  • P Justin Wain was shaky early, again
  • Secondary does not look for the ball in the air, this leads to PI, PI and more PI
  • No pressure on opposing QB, again
  • No adjustments by the defense, opposing offensive adjustments paid dividends
  • Boyle has now thrown for 1 TD and 11 INT’s in his career. He also had another fumble on a scramble today. For a coach that communicated at the start of 2014, ‘if you turn the ball over, you won’t play,’ this needs to be cleaned up heading into 2015
  • Fielding punts has been an issue all season, they need to be caught in the air, too many times 15-20 yards are lost by letting the ball bounce
  • Running on first and second down, down by 24 in the fourth did not make sense
  • The reverse pass with Deshon Foxx on 3rd and 8 down 6-0 going in, was not the spot to run it, need more field
  • Arkeel Newsome played 1 offensive play, to my count. He went for six when he did get the call
  • PENALTIES
