Diaco – All Over the CT Media This Past Week

Coach Bob Diaco has spent the past week appearing in various radio and television shows in CT promoting the UConn Football team. It seems he’s really trying to reach out to all demographics, appearing on FM stations Hot 93.7 and Lite 100.5 along with various AM stations as well. Each interview pretty much served the same purpose, and that was to promote the program. I remember previous coaches doing similar type things, but Diaco seems to be doing more of it, exposing both the program and himself to a much wider audience.

Ultimately, he will be judged by the product on the field. However you can’t argue with how’s he’s handled himself so far. The guy acts like UConn football is the coolest thing going, and implies people will be left out of something spectacular if they don’t jump on the bandwagon now. To more seasoned football fans, this all sounds too good to be true, and we know and understand UConn Football has much to accomplish before we anoint them a top 10 program. However that’s not really the point of Diaco’s strategy here. What Diaco is doing may get casual fans in the seats. He’s a great ambassador of the program, and he is infusing an energy into this program that hasn’t been here since the Fiesta Bowl. I haven’t been this excited for a season opener in 4 years. Let’s hope the excitement generated this offseason carries over into wins in the fall.
