Daniel Hamilton Commits To UConn Basketball
|by 3uconn
The great news that UConn received a verbal commitment from 2014 SG/SF Daniel Hamilton was broken last night by Eric Bossi of Rivals. This is a major commitment for Kevin Ollie and his staff. Hamilton told Bossi that he loved how Ollie made him his priority and the way he gives his players freedom on the court. Hamilton is a major recruit and possible McDonald’s All-American if he has a strong senior season next year. Which he will. The surprise aspect of this commitment is that it had been rumored that Daniel was part of a package deal. His brother, Isaac, is attending UTEP next year and it was very possible that Daniel would follow him there. Also, the only news that came out after Daniel finished his official visit to UConn this past weekend was that he had a great visit. However, it now seems like he committed to Kevin Ollie and the University of Connecticut on his visit and didn’t want to make it public at that time.
Hamilton is a long 6 foot 6, 180 lbs. shooting guard or small forward. For his size he has an excellent handle and has been tearing it up on the AAU circuit this summer so far. The night he committed, he led his team back from a double digit deficit to a win. He is playing for ICP Elite now and he will look to build on his solid performances. This past year he averaged 14.5 points, 7.1 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game. You also have to remember that he was playing along side an All-American in his brother.
Daniel is joining Rodney Purvis on the Husky team in 2014. Purvis is a combo guard who is transferring from NC State. These two together are showing everyone that Kevin Ollie will get it done on the recruiting trail for UConn. Hamilton attends St. John’s Bosco High School in California so Ollie has gotten his connections out west to work for him. Ollie is putting in his hard work and it’s showing now, proving to people that even in a conference that isn’t believed to be the best anymore, the American Athletic Conference, he will still get players to come and play for him. This also shows other recruits that other people are fine joining UConn in their quest for more championships.
Here are Daniel Hamilton’s rankings on the major recruiting services:
