University of Connecticut senior guard Kelly Faris has been selected by the Connecticut Sun as the No. 11 pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft on Monday evening at ESPN Studios in Bristol, Conn.

Faris is the 27th Husky to play in the league since the WNBA’s inception in 1997. UConn has now had a player selected in the WNBA Draft 14 times in the past 16 years. Connecticut did not have any seniors on its roster in 2003 or 2007. Faris is the 13th Husky all-time to be chosen in the first round of the WNBA Draft.

Faris, who started the last 115 games of her career, finished fifth on UConn’s all-time steals list with 294 thefts. She also concluded her career with 1,107 points, 821 rebounds and 545 assists.

The Plainfield, Ind. native reached four Final Fours and won two National Championships while at Connecticut. Faris’ senior accolades include AP Honorable Mention All-America, being selected a finalist for the WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year award, a spot on the 2012-13 Bridgeport All-Region Team, BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, BIG EAST Most Improved Player of the Year and All-BIG EAST Second Team selection.

Faris will join five former Huskies on the Sun roster as Tina Charles, Kalana Greene, Ashja Jones, Renee Montgomery and Jessica Moore are currently on the Connecticut roster.
